It may not seem it but this article took 6+ months to report & edit because of its complexity & making sense of the controversies while being fair to all involved. Big thanks to editor Nick Tate for helping throughout & being a hell of a cheerleader when I needed it. www.medscape.com/viewarticle/...
The Long, Controversial Search for a 'Cancer Microbiome'www.medscape.com Conflicting research and divisive logic dominate the quest to answer a critical question: Do cancer tumors have their own microbiomes, and what would that mean for an eventual cure?

I learned *so* much about pelvic organ prolapse and about pelvic floor health while writing this article, and I may very well become an evangelist for pelvic floor health after writing it. Aimed at PCPs but with good info for everyone. www.mdedge.com/familymedici...
From Stigma to Support: Raising Awareness of Pelvic Organ Prolapsewww.mdedge.com Pelvic organ prolapse affects more than half of all women eventually and gets worse with age, but adequate screening can ensure appropriate treatment.

For those outside New York, Errol Louis is a local political reporter and pundit who is by no means anti-cop. It’s meaningful that he’s the one saying that NYPD can’t be trusted on this.
“I would caution taking NYPD at their word on this because they kept reporters at a distance and released their own footage.” - Errol Louis on NY1

Oh my. This “explanation” makes it even LESS mundane. What a colossal mistake, and what remarkable (and yet typical) complete lack of self awareness.

This mini-thread is a book recommendation, but it's also an articles recommendation and a "keep an eye on this area of science" recommendation. The book rec first: YOU NEED TO READ ULTRA PROCESSED PEOPLE by Chris Van Tulleken.

I missed an interview that led to missing a deadline—which I couldn’t tell my editor about (I lost WiFi too)—delaying my story 2 days, on top of other list work. But thanks AT&T, I could almost buy a coffee at Starbucks with your measly 5 bucks while I had no service for 9 hours.

My initial reaction to making the full interview available was conflicted. I realized, thanks to Ben’s comments & replies to him, that that’s bc these interviews are so often done poorly & therefore do legitimize someone. BUT, when done WELL & source is challenged, it’s journalism done right.
I recommend you watch it. Taylor does extremely well here, and Chaya comes off universally as petulant and strange. This is how you actually interview someone like this, who has twisted themself into a pretzel to defend a hate campaign that has consumed their entire life and identity.

She nailed the interview and even the far-right is having trouble defending Chaya after this one. She comes across as not just cruel but vapid even to some of her own followers. It's a service to reveal this to those on the fence about taking her seriously. Please don't throw me into a volcano.

Nex Benedict's death in Oklahoma is a story of the hate that has been unleashed in recent years. Following ongoing bullying because they were nonbinary, Nex was severely injured in a fight at school on Feb. 7 and died a day later. This story, and their life, matters.
