The wagging tails and proud bragging about providing fascist imagery for a white supremacist movement is just particularly stomach churning. These people are really letting us know how they think and feel.

Santos are moving away from the controversial carbon offsetting approach by *checks notes* - Relying on totally uncontroversial CCS - Also still relying on offsets What on Earth is going on with this piece... carbonherald.com/santos-seeks... archive.ph/wip/5bAmf

It's quite remarkable how closely the dynamics of corporate investment in machine learning resemble the dynamics of frantic, bullrush construction of ultra-wasteful Bitcoin mining (which, remember, has continued burning energy even past the peak hype cycle) www.theguardian.com/business/art...

A tech company with unstoppably rising emissions buying up "carbon removal" credits from Occidental Petroleum: company that has explicitly said it's using carbon removal to enable more fossil extraction How are people working in carbon removal celebrating this??? carbonherald.com/microsoft-50...

"I personally can't imagine this, therefore why bother" really explains so much about where Australia's energy industry dudes are at right now

Peter Dutton manages to nudge Australian print media outlets climate mentions up to a high not seen since Nov 2022. And all it took was him spouting some nonsense bullshit that was nonetheless coded to be media catnip while real, serious issues are ignored sciencepolicy.colorado.edu/icecaps/rese...

This @theausinstitute.bsky.social survey illustrates kind of perfectly why the fossil fuel industry spends so much marketing spend talking about jobs, economics and how dependent government revenue is on fossil fuels. australiainstitute.org.au/wp-content/u...

One of the most head-spinning but largely unchallenged fossil industry lies in Australia is a monthly "warning" issued that there's a "gas shortage" which requires a million new gas fields to be opened up. More gas is burned *just to process gas exports* than is used domestically in manufacturing.

"Oh SHIT we're running out of GAS we gotta extract MORE GAS" is one of the filthiest lies from Aus' fossil fuel industry, yet somehow it's also extremely successful and largely received completely uncritically every time it gets repeated by their cheerleaders www.theguardian.com/australia-ne...

this is probably generally true but I have taken one (1) single good photo of fireworks in my life and it's sometimes my laptop / phone background
This is your annual advance reminder that you will never look at a photograph or video of fireworks again, nor will it be of any real interest to your social media contacts. Just look with your own gelatinous human eyes.

I guess this is because Shell's CCS facilities are working very well and bringing huge returns to the business

Not the main point of this article but man is it one of the single most harmful and toxic lies from this industry that fossil gas = 'clean energy'. Quite a few opinion polls suggest many people don't even consider it to be a fossil fuel. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/01/c...
