Excellent OAH book haul, as well, including @cnzander.bsky.social's exciting new work, John Rodrigue's award-winning Freedom's Crescent, and Justene Hill Edward's excellent book. It was especially cool to get my hands on an early copy of Tony Kaye's Nat Turner bio, finished by Greg Downs.

The OAH last weekend was excellent in many ways, but one treat was seeing my book highlighted at the Oxford University Press booth.

Kevin won't remember this, but I emailed him for help on my first real research project as an undergrad (on William Mahone's use of patronage). I'm so glad to see my first book has made it to you, Kevin.
Congratulations, @rkdcolby86.bsky.social. My copy just arrived. Can't wait to read it. 🗃️ #CivilWarMemory #skystorians

I feel confident that I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing today if, 20 years ago, Gary Gallagher hadn't graciously indulged a first-year undergraduate who repeatedly turned up in his office hours. So it was a real treat to get this collection published in his honor by @uncpress.bsky.social.

Somehow, the powers-that-be have decided its already course materials adoption season for the fall. That being the case, if you're assigning my book in an upcoming class, I'd be delighted to Zoom in and talk about it with your students! Shoot me a message if that's of interest.

Niche Civil War question: does anyone know if there's a guide somewhere to the photo collections of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, Massachusetts Commandery's photographic collections? I'd like to find out more about this picture held at the US Army Heritage and Ed. Com.

Even though my book is out of my hands (currently printing at Oxford University Press!), I can't resist trying to trace people caught in the wartime slave trade. For example: Jane Lyles, captured at Thaddeus Steven's ironworks Confederates in Chambersburg, PA during the Gettysburg Campaign.
