oh, it's be nice to bugs day? This child of the earth definitely did not belong in my kitchen, and has been carefully relocated to the garden, far from the chickens and ducks. I find them to be the squishiest and oogiest of bugs. Compelling though. I wish her good luck and comfort outside.

River tends to ramp up energy, thus her 'deescalate' cue, which is effective and also gets me some great incredulous looks. She just started to bark about some kids, swallowed her yip, and went to curl up alertly on her hassock. I told her that was a wonderful deescalation, thanked and pet her.

I literally stopped and gasped when I saw. Time lurched a little bit. look at where it put out a branch and then another trunk. That sub trunk is the size of a young, but not necessarily tiny, redwood...

This is one of the coolest, weirdest old redwoods I've ever met. Humboldt SP, CA.

it is Stupidly Hot right now but Annapurna's undercoat is FINALLY releasing; and it is actually lifting all at once, like a qiviut he's much more comfortable. but I love him in full coat, so here it is before it mercifully dropped off for the summer

This beautiful pier made a gorgeous evening walk from our motel in Eureka. The only problem? This concluded day 1 of the show, and I did not want to have to re-bathe him for day 2. There was plenty of gull guano that he would have LOVED to roll in, and there were several close moments! Noooooo...

Did you know about the Shark Park in Eureka CA? I visited with my hound, whose name is Mako. (I think of him as a long finned mako)

Ferndale has many splendid old barns decorated with quilting motifs. Yeah there is a reason I like to go here to show the dogs, this is a great place to spend time.

A lovely little park in downtown Ferndale displays this Victorian playhouse, made for charity. Mako says that he does not require a doghouse, but one like this would be fine.

Dogging around beautiful Victorian Ferndale. This is my favorite form of architecture. So beautiful

Exploring a coastal temperate rainforest, my favorite biome, with a good friend

Paths in Ferndale's glorious Russ park lead up moist, steep canyons and to wonderful places. This forest, a bit over 100 miles north of the one I live in, but contiguous ecology, is both like and wonderfully unlike home. Ferndale gets more rain. I love the whole PNW.

There is a SHARK PARK in Eureka and Sharkboy Mako got to visit it

Sweet little sharkboy dude did so well in Ferndale!!! In conformation, he went winners dog both days, earning his first 2 championship points. He qualified in rally novice twice, gaining his RN title (nobody ask him for first aid please) fourth place, in a class of 5. Fun show, thanks Mako!!
Avatar
ha, this course map. It was from the second day. I looked at that and went 'ahahahahaha ok I'm going to fail by getting lost in the course and heading the wrong direction FOR SURE, what even are those first two, the monstrous fusion of 2 cone exercises?!?!?!?!

I keep them on the inside of my bedroom door, but I may need a new rack soon for the rosettes---especially that big center one from the triathlon! The ribbons are arranged one clip per dog...top left is Trout, right Mako, middle Phoenix and River, bottom corner Zhava and Coba.
Avatar
...I just realized that Mako qualified for his Rally Novice title the necessary 3 times with only 3 runs. He is a high-drive borzoi, and earned an _obedience title_ before his second birthday. That happened?! First time for me. ...yeah the dog deserves a steak. He liked his slice of pizza.

Mako and I had a great time at the Lost Coast Kennel Club's show in Ferndale this weekend! Fast cat (a 100 yard sprint) was offered, with day-of entries, so I could reward Mako for a job well done in conformation and obedience with his favorite possible activity: a run on a lure.

River and Plumeria spending some garden time ...yeah these 2 don't love each other at all or anything

a small, brightly colored reef feels, strongly, that I should Feed The Fish Now. These are Lake Malawi mbuna cichlids, mostly electric yellow labs (no really) and they are alert, intelligent little friends.

Mako and I are going to do a dog show this weekend; one of my fave shows in one of my fave towns, Ferndale, which has great coastal weather. Shark Dude has now been washed in many fine products; I'll trim paws tonight and maybe bathe again in the AM. He might win something and we'll have fun!

Maryhill's weird, epic, monumental Stonehenge replica and its vistas

Seeing this was profound: it's massive and creates space in a way pics don't quite convey. The original must be so emotional; it must have been extraordinary to the ancients. This one is weirdly a monument to historical misunderstanding, how meaning changes over time and human love of epic spaces.
