Alright, alright… here is a Baldie for the 4th. Looking a bit grumpy and worn, seems appropriate for this year. 🪶
Birds Feed! 🪶 today calls for some bald eagle photos! Bring out your eagles (or other raptors if the baldies aren’t in your portfolio) 🦅🌿

There's nothing more American than ball games and Common Nighthawks! Enjoy this informative nighthawk post from The Chicago Birder Blog. Where have you seen nighthawks this summer? www.chicagobirder.org/blog/2023/6/...

Fledgling Cardinal looking like a lanky teenager. So darn cute! These little ones have been hanging out at the cafe and investigating seed husks so I put out a low tray feeder for them.

Lady Cardinal. The dads have been bringing the kids to the feeder so maybe she is taking a nice respite from raising a family.

Some fireworks on this wee one. Look at that sparkle!
For your consideration: Orasema (a Gargoyle wasp) 💚 🌿 🐝

Hairy Woodpecker (L) vs Red-bellied Woodpecker (R). While I still haven't gotten Hairy and Downy on the same feeder this gives you a nice size reference for the Hairy Woodpecker.

Why stick with a bald eagle when you can go with a patriotic marbled shrimp? Check out the stars and stripes on that tail! These shrimp have a wild variety of color and patterns, this one was pretty unique. Off Ulua beach a few years ago. (Saron marmoratus) 📷🌿🐙

#Photography folks, show any 9 frames from your Instagram grid and drop your handle. I’m @steve_waycott on IG and I post photos of local wildlife of all shapes, sizes, and types. I'm cheating and posting 2 selections because I can't decide between them & I don't have the time to fret over it. :)

Happy 4th of July! In the wise words of Ben Franklin: The Bald Eagle is a Bird of bad moral Character. Too lazy to fish for himself. The Turkey is a more respectable Bird, though vain & silly, a Bird of Courage, and would attack a Brit who should presume to invade his Farm Yard with a red Coat on.

Just finished having a heat pump installed to get rid of a weird propane boiler/hot water heating system. Now I just need to invest in some solar panels and the house will be quite green. 😁😁😁

It’s not obvious, but this is an Eastern Kingbird. They are incredible aerialists who hunt and catch insects in flight. But sometimes it’s just too easy for them. So this Eastern Kingbird dialed up the difficulty by going after a damselfly while upside down! And caught it!🪶

You gotta read the thread.
EUROPEAN ROBIN: a precious feather baby, a ruddy sky dumpling, a good friend, will help you find your keys, full of ice cream AMERICAN ROBIN: big, often wet, surly, has your wallet, killed a rat underneath the bird feeder to make an example to the other animals

We don't get to see mammatus clouds here very often so it was fun catching this view at sunset today. Mammatus are a pattern of pouches on the underside of thunderstorm clouds and may indicate severe activity including hail.

You don’t think about colors like red blowing out, but I’ve had this issue with Scarlet Tanagers. Anyway, follow Mike for more amazing tropical birds.
Photographing the male Red-headed Barbet can be challenging in certain light, as the red feathers are so brightly iridescent, they overexpose that part of the image. La Minga Ecolodge, Colombia #birds

Yet another #caturday portrait of Snowman. This dude was a beat up, bloody street cat when we met. He didn’t trust anyone. It will always warm my heart to see him this relaxed and content, taking over the warm spot when I get up in the morning.
