99 percent of podcasts get what most people would consider an embarrassingly low number of downloads. Yet! That doesn’t make them failures! Successful podcasts engage their community and it’s possible to succeed with a few hundred downloads per episode if your devoted audience loves you.
okay it's time for a prompt post: respond to this post with a correction to a common misconception about something you know a lot about. if you feel like it, boost your response. (please use a kindly tone about it, otherwise i, your prompt curator, will get anxious.)

Today's @thebigstory.bsky.social is the latest on the LCBO strike and recent changes to alcohol policy in Ontario ... and a tour through the history of this province being incredibly weird about booze basically every time the issue comes up. link.chtbl.com/UYIyzPYC

Just eight years ago, Canada's approach to asylum seekers was world renowned. Just a year ago, asylum seekers were camping homeless on the streets of Toronto, begging for shelter. This is how the system fell apart. Today's @thebigstory.bsky.social. t.co/HctYh7W9TF

If you are Canadian and want the best run down of all the recent Federal housing policy changes listen to this episode of Jordan’s podcast. It unpacks, very clearly, what they are and what their implications will be.
It was fantastic to talk to housing policy expert Mike Moffat yesterday and get a little deeper on the government's housing plan. There's a lot to unpack, and some smaller things that get overlooked but might make a huge difference. You can listen right here! link.chtbl.com/UYIyzPYC

My (almost) 7yo has been walking around singing Taylor Swift's "22". But because of the way she enunciates it, all I hear is, "It feels like a perfect night/to dress up like Hitler..."

I think a lot about the fact that climate change, for us, will mean a gradual loss of things we think of as Canadian. Outdoor backyard rinks, skating the Rideau Canal, tobogganing... and maple syrup. Today's @thebigstory.bsky.social: lnk.to/bigstory

Not saying save everything, become your own personal completist archivist. But if you work in digital media and you do something you’re proud of, back it up. On your own solid state HD. Just in case. I’m very secure in my job. I love it. Hope to be here forever. I still do this.

This affects more than just criminal cases. I'm a civil trial lawyer. I routinely can't get a day with a judge for a motion for up to 18 months. It's a nightmare for anyone who must access the system.

Tech bros *hate* RSS because it is a way for information to go directly between authors and audience without them being able to extract rents in between.
“RSS is dead, he repeats endlessly throughout the book.” There is something about RSS that really bugs the tech bros.

Toronto banned tobogganing in dozens of city parks. It’s meant to protect kids, like everything these days, but are these rules doing more harm than good? Today I spoke to Mariana Brussoni of UBC about the benefits of “risky play” in childhood and what we're doing to our kids.   lnk.to/bigstory

The story of how Sunrise Records survived and thrived while every other music retail chain in Canada totally collapsed is a great example of a business figuring out who they really serve, what they actually want and hammering those things relentlessly. This was fascinating. lnk.to/bigstory
