oh btw if you're looking for specific numbers, i remember a friend's cello got a small crack in it kind of like this, and it was gonna run him like $1000 to fix it (he decided not to). i bet there are violin subreddits you could check out for more precise quotes though!

probably not as strict as they should've been. the 1980s blob at age 6 was a little rough. but definitely stricter than my pop pop, who had no rules whatsoever. to this day we'll say 'oh i saw that when we were kids' and my mom will go 'what?! did pop pop let you--?!' and the answer is always yes
