Juneteenth is a federal holiday. But in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas; Republicans have passed laws to prevent teachers from teaching kids why.

Schools and banks are closed on a national holiday so kids can probably figure out why, if they have cell phones and a TV and maybe by the time they’re old enough to vote they’ll live in modern, healthy, prosperous free states.

makes no sense. after all, slavery is their "heritage"

That's why they did it. It's their heritage and half the white people want it back and the other half have so much white fragility they refuse to talk about it. Because we all know disowning problems just go away when you refuse to address them.

oh New Hampshire. so far north-east, but so itching to be a republican hell-scape

"Class, if you want to know what Juneteenth ia all about, and why I'm not allowed to tell you in this state, just google it." 🤫

I grew up in Texas and never learned about Juneteenth, except that was when watermelons were ripe (I swear!), so nothing new there. You’d think they’d want to improve education as it progresses, but you’d be wrong.

New Hampshire's law got struck down a few weeks ago. I'm sure our insane legislature will try again soon.

Pretty sure that isn't true for Alabama. Cite the law that says that you can't teach the history of Juneteenth.

We all know that anyone who would start their profile with "Christian, husband, dad…" will never do an ounce of work in their life they can't pass off to someone they deem lesser and will constantly deflect from facts.

Critical race theory is very different from history and the reason for Juneteenth. If you think they're the same, you have no idea what CRT is. Alabama hasn't banned teaching history.
Avatar
ah, the lie we were all expecting. anti-CRT laws aren’t designed to prohibit teaching Richard Delgado‘s to elementary schoolers, they’re designed to prohibit teaching anything making racists uncomfortable, like actual history wonder why U AL law scrubbed Delgado from their emeritus faculty page

The toxic mix of that is the new confederacy.

Surprised Georgia isn’t part of this as well.
