Yep. One of the biggest blind spots people have is assuming that underneath, others share the same basic values as them. They have trouble imagining an ideology that is completely misaligned with theirs.

As someone who spent so many weekends in the library looking for new books to read or doing my studies or just needing somewhere quiet to escape — if I’d seen this as a kid or even as a high schooler it probably would have devastated me and that’s not hyperbole or exaggeration
This is one of the most dystopian signs I've ever seen. Republicans are quickly turning this country into an unrecognizable freakshow.

Sadly, I know of one case in which a state university research center pulled back in anticipation of what they thought the legislature might do even before a law was passed (and hasn’t yet been in that state).
More enthusiastic overcompliance with these anti-DEI laws. At this point, I can only conclude that many of the top "leaders" in these universities were simply waiting for an excuse to get rid of these student organizations, and now they have it.
At onset of anti-DEI law, Utah colleges close cultural centerswww.insidehighered.com As in Florida, Texas and other states that have passed anti-DEI legislation, Utah’s public institutions are applying the law with a broad brush.

As a child it was cool to think that oil is a kind of dinosaur soup, but this is pure fantasy. “For some strange reason, the idea that oil comes from dinosaurs has stuck with many people" but is a #myth. Oil forms when trillions of tiny algae & plankton in the sea died, & sank to the sea bottom 🧪🎢⚒️
No, oil does not come from dinosaurswww.sciencenorway.no “This myth must be debunked,” says Norwegian geologist

really shocked that someone would say this to another human being, but shocks like these is why we have Disability Pride Month
For Disability Pride Month, one thing I'd love abled bodied people to figure out is how to speak to someone with chronic health issues without implying that if they themselves had the disabled person's health conditions, they would end it all. I promise you life goes on- even with health issues.

County judge just released the Grand Jury records in the 2008 Jeffrey Epstein trial. On the other site, Julie Brown, Miami Herald Reporter whose pursuit of the original story is largely responsible for Epstein’s second conviction breaks them down, & it’s every bit as devastating as you’d think

the blind faith in this country's institutions runs deep and the only positive thing that this supreme court decision may bring is to further radicalize the current generation of young people

You heard it here first folks. When engineers say what the radius of a highway curve should be, that’s communism. Public health rules for safe drinking water? Communism.

During World War II, the Allies discovered that the Nazis were collecting radioactive thorium from every corner of all the countries they invaded They thought it was going toward a massive Nazi nuclear weapon The Nazis were in fact using the throrium to make radioactive toothpaste
The radium craze extended from Radithor to radioactive suppositories for sex power and no I am not kidding. Regulation is good, actually.

Something most Americans would be shocked to learn is how responsive the federal administrative state is to complaints and inquiries. Agencies like the FCC, FTC, EPA, etc., want to get your tips and questions. And they follow up. That’s what SCOTUS wants to steal from you.
🧵 In 2020, I nearly died from mysterious industrial chemical exposure at my apartment. Later, I discovered my employer was dumping toxic waste into our windows from their Skunkworks semiconductor fab next-door. I tipped off US EPA, who then raided them in 2023. EPA sent me the report on Friday. 💀 ⬇️

And yet the average person just believes whatever the stores say. Doesn't help that the media by and large simply reports their bs claims without challenge.
Noticed this at big chain stores the last couple times I was in NYC. Both times, in different parts of the city, I just walked a few blocks to a non-chain drugstore where nothing was locked down. Either the indie stores are taking massive losses, or this isn’t really about theft.
