Tossing it out there: any recommendations for good books or websites (or videos, I suppose) for non-alcoholic cocktails? I would like to be able to whip something up for patio guests rather than chucking a LaCroix at them all the time. Thanks!

I'll add "and your non-alcoholic beer that's not a goddam IPA I mean they were a plague on the industry even with alcohol content but NOW?" recommendation also, please.

It's hard to beat Guinness 0.0, in my opinion. Flavor is very good, and the nitro canister does enough to confuse you into not noticing the thinness as much as with most NA beers.

If you like stout, there's a company called Big Drop Brewing that makes an alcohol free milk stout that's delicious, and has a more robust body. Doom Bar does a nice amber ale as well
Avatar
Athletic makes a bunch of good ones.
Avatar
I will say Athletic has been the standout for me, but the Bitburger 0.0 is pretty damn great.
Avatar
Yeah that one is good too. Also there’s this company that makes bottled fake Negronis (they’re called Phony Negronis) that are excellent. The one that’s mezcal flavored is truly incredible. But they’re pricey.
Avatar
Club Casamara makes pretty nice “amaro inspired” sodas but they too are pricey. But rather delicious!

Athletic does a great line in dark beers but they don’t make them year round. Their Emerald Cliffs, Irish Red and Dark n Gourdy are all very good. Best Day Brewing’s NA Kolsch is my favorite non-dark NA. And Guinness 0.0 is as close as you can get (the mouthfeel of any NA is always thin to me tho)
Avatar
Yeah the Guinness is excellent

Non-alcoholic beer has gotten leaps and bounds better in the last few years. It's to the point where I bring a 6 pack thinking me and a couple friends who don't drink either will split it, and we end up with one apiece because a few people who do drink sometimes also want one.

Athletic Brewing makes a good Mexican-style cerveza, Best Day Brewing makes a really nice Kolsch and Belgian-style wheat, and Clausthaler makes a terrific n/a lager. I was an IPA-hater too but I’ve been surprised by the n/a ones, specifically Brew Dog’s Hazy AF, which is very juicy and I really dig.
Avatar
Clausthaler dry hopped is a favorite among my family.
Avatar
If that’s what they call Clausthaler Extra Herb* in America: YES. Best unleaded beer ever. None of the excessive malty sweetness too many have. It’s my go-to during this JuNO! (like Drynuary, but in June). * Sorry, stoners. “Herb” is just German for “(pleasantly) bitter”.

Depends on where you're at Alesmith (San Diego) does a NA Speedway Stout that's a damn good attempt at an Imperial Stout, and this brand is a great base for cocktails. The Tequila in particular impressed the hell out of me.
Avatar
Another plus-one for Athletic, and also Suntory All-Free, which instead of trying to make beer bat with no alcohol just attempts, successfully to me, to make a beer-flavored soda pop that’ll hold a foamy head. Makes a killer Michelada.
Avatar
Believe it or not, the Guinness Zero is pretty good

Athletic Brewing Company "Ripe Pursuit" (non-alcoholic lemon radler)

this just arrived here & it’s so good

THANK YOU. I’ve been looking for a good N/A cider.

Athletic is definitely my go-to! Their dark beer is good and I find their IPAs super drinkable. Busty Lush has had my other favorite NA dark beer. I tried Deschutes' NA Black Butte the other day and for me it suffered from comparison to the standard version, but ymmv!
Avatar
I did like Black Butte when I was drinking, I’ll have to hunt down that NA version.
Avatar
It may be a boring option but the Corona Non-Alcoholic is astoundingly like the regular beer and also quite low calorie

Untitled Art out of Milwaukee has some good ones. Sadly their orange peel wit is currently out of season :(

We are right-thinking men.

Ironically, there are a few "hop waters" available (at least in Chicago) that are pretty good! Usually with a fruit flavor over the ops, like a fruity seltzer with a bitter kick.
I find O’Douls Amber to be palatable, FWIW
Avatar
Erdinger is the best non-alcoholic lager I've tried.
Avatar
Deschutes makes a couple of good NAs: Black Butte Porter and Fresh Squeezed IPA.
Avatar
N/A beers I prefer: Athletic Brewing golden, Bravus gose if available. Some of the radlers.
Avatar
I had a Pickleball pilsner non-alcoholic beer this week. Pretty good! Would have again.
Avatar
I don’t know if it’s available outside the Midwest, but Untitled Art has an NA Italian Pilsner that is really fantastic.
Avatar
Guinness 0.0 is one of the best non-alcoholic beers I’ve tried.
Avatar
I have a non drinking friend who prefers Goya Malta as a beer replacement to non-alcoholic beer.
Avatar
Best Day Brewing West Coast IPA. Hands down the best NA beer I’ve had. Tastes like beer. I’ve fooled a few (arguably non beer drinker) people into thinking it was beer.
Avatar
They make a Kolsch, too. The West Coast one isn’t too IPA-y.
Probably not available near you but I really like Slovak beer Zlaty Bazant. Google tells me it is distributed in USA as Golden Pheasant. Alcohol limit for driving is 0, so creates a market for zero alcohol beer
Avatar
Is there a non-alcoholic drinks store near you? We have them in Brooklyn so I can’t imagine LA would be far behind.
Avatar
LA has two Boisson locations. They also ship. And while I’m here replying to strangers: “Good Drinks” is book of mocktail recipes, most of which require some planning. thezeroproof.com is an online n.a. beverage retailer.

Rickeys, as a class, are delightful with alcohol or without. Generally, you find all the recipes with gin or rum; just delete that and add a bit more juice for it. Watermelon lime rickeys are fantastic.

What did you write a book or something?

Just tryina keep up out here….

Jinx Adam. I also said Italian bitter sodas
Avatar
The bitter profile is really where the NA stuff shines. You can, believe it or not, make a totally acceptable NA martini from the citrusy Seedlip, something like the Roots Divino vermouth analogue, two drops of olive oil, and then lemon peel, olive, and an onion.

100%. Giffard makes some excellent n/an options that gets mouthfeel right: Aperitif Sirop (which lands between Campari and Aperol) a pineapple liqueur, and a ginger liqueur.
