Saw my first Woodcocks! Adult & 3 babies, crossing road in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Bestie drove into center of road so no one coming in around the curve would smash into them. They decided against crossing & I hope they stay safe. It was SO COOL. I love their little walk.

Oh, I feel that ❤️ I lost 2 friends this week (my foster hen, Brownie, & my 19 yo cat, Maizie) & spent 3 hrs in the woods yesterday; did some Merlin app bird song recordings & foraged food. Came back feeling like a person again.
It's usually only icy if it melted a bit & refroze. Typically, when fresh & kept well frozen, it's super smooth, almost custardy, & not icy at all. The Oatly Salted Caramel & Van Leeuwen Sicilian Pistachio are my fave commercial vegan ice creams. CoolHaus is also excellent!
My little baby Brooky will be heading to the rescue on Tuesday. I've had him as my foster for 6 months & I honestly keep getting weepy about him leaving #chickens
The only 3 consolations are: I'll see him on my 3 work shifts/wk, he'll be so happy with outdoor time during the day, & I'm bringing home my new foster, Brownie, the same day I lose him. She's a disabled Bantam hen & I'm gonna spoil her so much.
Brownie lost both legs to extensive frostbite before her rescuer saved her. She's very thin & has pretty serious infections in her stumps, but she's such a fighter. She's eating well & getting vet care to fix her up. #chickens
