This week’s newsletter breaks down why, despite its past interjections on the subject of genre (which were not really about genre), the Emmys do not care if you think The Bear isn’t a Comedy. episodicmedium.substack.com/p/week-to-we...

In February, I was on a set visit and saw an interaction between Scott and another critic where he was self-reflective about his evolution as a critic amidst a changing industry (and culture), and it said so much about his respect for the job and his peers. A true loss.
Scott was one of my immediate predecessors as TCA President and it's hard to put into words how much I learned from him and how much I enjoyed working with him on various TCA boards and sitting a row or two away from him at countless TCA events.

The CW used to have an outsize place in TV discourse relative to the actual number of people watching because it targeted a smaller audience (young adults) and did it really well. Now? What @memles.bsky.social says here is dead on.

Having also seen Temple Grandin in an airport, it’s maybe the celebrity sighting that comes with the most certainty at first glance. Like, who ELSE would this be?

Why did they write Taraji and Joan a Costume Design intro without even a cursory segue into Limited Series? (Also this Obi-Wan Kenobi nomination is really the dumbest).

The DJ who cued up the X-Files theme as incidental walk on music on a night of cast reunions that does not include the X-Files? Jail.

The way the narrator says “Dahmer -Monster” is making me think I’m insane?

It’s a pity that the world continues to be fucked up enough that a RuPaul’s Drag Race win in Reality Competition Series feels like a moral victory instead of the latest bout of mindless complacency in this category from the TV Academy.

If I was in the audience for the Emmys, I’d be absolutely petrified at the idea of losing all perception of who qualifies for a standing ovation by night’s end. I’d just be standing for everyone just in case. Might even stay standing.

I don’t know if there’s been bad takes on The Marvels’ box office failure HERE, but the Old Place was full of ‘em, and so @kristenwarner.bsky.social joined me to explore why “box office bomb” isn’t a value judgment, whether we like the industry logic behind it or not.
