I know the UK is often whipped by the US into doing whatever the latter wants on foreign policy but can I expect even just a slight change in posture and policy on Palestine from the World's Silliest Anglophone Socialist Party or

I'm not sure Keir Starmer has a political identity other than I'm Not Jeremy Corbyn, so perhaps be careful what you wish for

It's the same here with Biden, he's not Trump.

No, if anything it will be even worse. The faction running things are genuinely some of the most ice chewing pro Israel freaks out there.

now now. irish labour exists (Though they are infinitely better on Palestine by way of the overton window in Ireland on I-P being so different to start with)

But nevertheless. World's silliest anglophone socialist party probably split between them and pre-Albanese Australian Lab

Any insight onto what I can expect wrt Palestine tho
Avatar
Probably moderately better than right now but not by a massive amount and with probably quite a big chance of them starting something progress-oriented and chickening out of it midway

But to be fair I dont think it's totally hopeless. Labour do at least nominally support a ceasefire by policy

Tories do too no? I suppose the issue is that Sunak is not Cameron and Cameron is not Kearns etc though.

Probably more backbench MPs on the whole will be pro-Palestine with a Lab majority than a Tory one. Though there are obvious counterexamples. Like, Luke Akehurst finally shoving himself into Parliament isn't great...

Can't see OP, but assume this is about the incoming gov, which if anything, will be reliably pro Israel. One of the guy's responsible for Starmer is a literal lobbyist for Israel (and soon MP) who once said Obama and Kerry were antisemites, just as a flavour for how they think.

Albanese ALP deserve a look in here too imo

I'd rather the British stay out of the middle east in any posture. They've done enough damage thank you very much.

I think they've long ago forgotten they're even named LABOUR at this point

I wouldn't expect anything good on Palestine from starmer!

Unfortunately this is Keir Starmer www.lbc.co.uk/news/sir-kei... When asked about Israel cutting off water and electricity from Gaza, Keir Starmer said “Israel has the right. Obviously, everything should be done within international law."
Israel 'has the right' to withhold power and water from Gaza, says Sir Keir Starmerwww.lbc.co.uk Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has decried the actions of Hamas as ‘terrorism’ and said Israel has the “right to defend herself.”
Avatar
depends. if you want them to nuke Gaza into a pulp they'd probably sign up

A large number of their candidates are supported by 'Labour Friends of Israel'.

They tried to head off public anger by claiming that it was now Labour policy to support a Palestinian state, and then quietly walked it back a day before the election. A proportion of their votes today will have come from people who were on the marches and were duped.

Expect? Not sure. Demand? Hell yes
