Focus-group polling has found that the messages I develop in the book increase support for phasing out fossil fuels among Democrats AND Republicans alarmed and concerned about the climate crisis by up to 10 points. That’s a big shift. 2/n

The book argues that climate propaganda should now be understood not only as the explicit disinformation circulated by authoritarian petrostates and the MAGA base, but also... 4/n

as an apparently "reasonable" narrative that we ALL hear all the time from our elected officials and the mainstream press. 5/n

This propagandistic narrative is repeated not only by fossil-fuel interests on the right, in other words, but also in echoes and fragments (and sometimes in its entirety) by scientists, economists, journalists, politicians, and even some advocates on the left. 6/n

It goes something like this: “Yes, climate change is serious, but to call it an existential threat is just *alarmist* — and we have to consider the *cost* of phasing out coal, oil, and gas. Human flourishing relies on the economic *growth* enabled by fossil fuels, so...” 7/n
