70% of republicans in california think slavery has had no impact on the current social position of black people...

kind of crazy how people who literally remember the Jim Crow era are *less* likely to think the legacy of slavery impacts Black people.

i definitely think there's a "if i admit their social position is affected, i implicitly admit that i have benefited from their oppression" thing going on here. and the closer you are to the oppression, the more that dynamic is at play.

And how is it that the older we get, the less we know or care? That, alone, is deeply disturbing.
