We need a small army of volunteers to visit A&E on Thursday set up proxy votes for those who haven't voted yet. I reckon they'd be in the right frame of mind to get the Tories out!

Please tell me the juxtaposition of blank cheque and unchecked was deliberate. And whose idea was it? The Tories don't seem to have handle on words, do they?
@SkyNews: "If you hand Labour a blank cheque, you will not be able to get it back." Rishi Sunak says if the Labour Party wins power with a "supermajority", it will mean a "Labour government unchecked". Politics latest: https://t.co/xItZsH7tea 📺 Sky 501, Freeview 233 and YouTube https://t.co/21f6

And also that "9 out of 10 schools are outstanding"! Outstanding could stand for very good if it was exceptional but not 90%. You all need to study maths to 18. Bah! UK general election live: Rishi Sunak says UK is ‘better place to live now than it was in 2010’ www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

Just how many times did Sunak say "surrender" in that debate?

This is clearly an attempt to hoover up a few general election votes from otherwise disengaged pylon haters, but I fear it might be necessary. Britain is getting windier. What is the relative cost going to be if pylons are made to stand safely against that wind? www.theguardian.com/politics/art...

I thought I was about to be canvassed. We've had one Labour and one Lib-Dem leaflet each, but that's all so far for this general election. To be fair we're in a 97%/3% Lab/LD seat. It was a Jehovah's Witness.

Woah! And it looks like it's mainly younger people.

the Chinese abacus, once you're trained on it, is extremely fast for addition, subtraction, and multiplication, but slow on division and roots. In the 1970s, you see transitional portable electronic calculators with an abacus for shopkeepers so they can keep abacusing.

If that's what he wants, I think we should make sure that that's what he gets. Repeatedly.

There are sparrows, at least two, and starlings, and a robin finding caterpillars on our box bushes. They're coming so often they must be feeding chicks. It's great. I'd knocked back the box moth infestation, but I knew I wouldn't have got them all. This is the first year I've seen predation. Yay!

Tries to resist the urge to track down another version of Beowulf for my granddaughter.
"She was of the same kind as Grendel, monstrous, evil, a Death-Shadow-in-the-Dark; but she had possessed the power to love, and she had loved her son, and was therefore more terrible than he had ever been."

How about this for panic. Here’s a government minister explaining THREE DAYS AGO why National Service was a bad idea. www.theyworkforyou.com/wrans/?id=20...

Lol to nobody’s surprise, the police really don’t know shit about the bond and duty of care faculty feel for their students. This is what protect and serve actually looks like.

A thread from the old-place. Good humoured, from all sides, and reassuring information about reheating rice. Quick precis: In domestic cooking (up to 8 portions) rice can cool fast enough that the toxin producing spores won't germinate. So don't panic twitter.com/doctorshaib/...

Don't be long term sick. Access treatment so you can go back to work. Does the fool think people are staying ill to try to scrape by on a pittance by choice? I'm not a starry-eyed liberal; I worked in a law centre and some try to cheat, but not in general. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I should not have to get a socket set out in order to wash a pan lid😬 Not even to dry it. The handle mount traps water and experiment has shown that it has not dried out after a week of draining. The room edging traps food too. Looks good out of the box though.

Kid asked me a math question, and I had an idea about how to solve it, but wasn't entirely sure I remembered the details. Wondered what would happen if I asked AI systems. I asked every AI system I could remember. They basically all gave different answers.

Cast nee'r a clout till May be out. As a child I was told this meant you should still wear a vest and sweater until it was June. Later I learnt that it's a reference to the flowers of the May thorn; the nuts (knots) that we go gathering in May. We will be lucky if there any to be found on Mayday.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... RaceFail on fire off the shoulder of LiveJournal ... I watched Sad Puppies glitter in the dark near the Hugo ballots. All those moments will be lost to OFAC, like tears in rain... Time to die.

And I was looking forward to finding out what Chinese fans supported. I consume C fantasy through dodgy translations and I'll never feel the nuances, but there might have been good translations as a result. 😢
And along with explaining what a Worldcon is, how the voting works, and explicitly encouraging their readers to vote for their favourite work from China or anywhere else, they did a list of recommendations, with one to nine options per category—again, including both Chinese and non-Chinese creators

I also note that one of the complaints that the Sad Puppies raised was that they thought Hugo Administrators acted in arbitrary and capricious ways to deny people they disliked Hugo nods. McCarty is saying they were right. I don't think he realizes it, because he appears to be stupid, but he is.
