From what I've been told, it was the name of a wooden dowel that would be inserted into the gunwale of a rowboat as a lever for the oars to push against. We called them toepins and used small loop of rope around them and the oars to stabilize & prevent the oars from falling overboard.

It is. Most of the area is farmland or bush. I assume it's so large as the populations drops of quickly and they needed to include a whole lot of area to dilute the vote. There is no other reason to amalgamate a huge rural area into the city. I tried to get the scale to match in the screen caps.

I'm embarrassed that I tried to colour the inlay using some Crayola markers I had and made a complete hash of it! The blank cassette used looks incredible though.

I'd love to take you all on a tour of this Marvelous Terrible place of Twillingate, show you the 400 year old outport, see the famous Long Point lighthouse, get you out on the water to try to fish for cod, and then have you all for a fire down on the beach after sundown.

So. I overheated and blew up yesterday riding the difficult Codjack Cove trails as it was 25°C, humid and no wind or clouds on that side of the island. The wind came right around last night from the North Atlantic. Today it's a wind chill of 3°C, and chilly as hell!

They used to be in blue bottles too. We also have iceberg rum and vodka.

Ice cubes made from last year's iceberg crop. Large chunks from a clear vein in an iceberg were rescued from the ocean after it foundered in shallow water and broke up.

Being northwest on the island over the weekend and it's wild that it is still twilight well after well after 23:00. Travelling west in the time zone shifts everything later, while being further north lengthens the day.
