Yeah, this might finally break my brain to become fully stancil-pilled, the entire left side of the political spectrum appears to actively desire jumping off a cliff

and parlay that into multiyear six figure appearance contracts on cable news.
I don't know to what extent this is the mix of people's motives, but it frequently gets floated out there and it is such a short-sighted read of the risks that come with a second Trump term. Further Orbanization of the media environment is likely and there's some risk of flat gov speech oppression.
Can't be earning that sweet pundit dough if you're fired and facing trial for some made-up charges because you insulted the capricious vanity of the President.

should have been more clear in my other response, but its not just pundits. its consultants and insiders of all flavors.
Oh, for sure. Same story with them. Peoples mental model of the risk here should be closer to what political opposition looks like under Orban or Putin, not the consultant ecosystem that developed over the last generation existing in perpetuity.

problem is, 2017-2020 were very good years for them.
Yep. That's the proximate source of the bad judgment about Trump being a cash cow and a total misread of the ongoing risk. The thin barrier that kept things from getting ugly for them has snapped and it's not clear how bad it will get with it gone.
The frustrating thing here is that we have both recent and older examples of what happens with the kind of political organization we're seeing right now to draw understanding from, and people have a hard time *really* believing it until it's too late. Classic mass reaction to disaster warnings.
