Gardening is just figuring out who your enemy is today: crab grass? Chipmunks? The sun? You will battle them all, knocking down one foe only for two more to grow in its place. And all for the joy of having roses and tomatoes for 2 weeks out of a year.

Lost in the ongoing Trumpapalooza is the excellent news that a malaria vaccination developed at Oxford Univ. over the last 30 years and costing only £3 per shot is being unrolled in malaria-prone countries. If it fulfills its promise, this will make an enormous difference to so many lives.

We went to 3 jazz clubs in the west village tonight before we could get a seat and in every one my husband's like "Oh I was here before." Apparently he has an entire 2nd life as an NYC beatnik. I never knew.

Writing is not linearly productive. You can write something no one wants and spend months or years on it; it’s not wasted time. It’s time spent learning how to do things you’ll put into practice elsewhere, so long as you don’t get discouraged and stop.
