RIP the Gaza aid pier. It didn't last long, it didn't accomplish anything, and it was always just a PR stunt to pull attention away from the government's support of a genocide, but at least it cost more money than the federal government spends on addiction treatment programs
Big reasons for defense spending:
1) giving money to defense contractors, & - to a lesser extent - to defense contractor workers
2) ensuring that money *doesn't* go to meaningfully helping the poor
3) These two add up to empowering the caste system - allocating wealth & power to groups for effect
