RIP the Gaza aid pier. It didn't last long, it didn't accomplish anything, and it was always just a PR stunt to pull attention away from the government's support of a genocide, but at least it cost more money than the federal government spends on addiction treatment programs
I mean, this was never meant to work. It was just a money/reputation laundering scheme. If the ACoE had done the work it would have actually done what it was meant to!
Fogbow is made up of retired US Marine, US Navy, and US State Department muckety mucks, and a guy from Wulff Creek Advisors - a 'boutique investment advisory firm' and Autumn Road Capital - 'Venture Capital and Private Equity'.
How much less would this have cost if the money wan't being laundered?
well, if they didn't want to fatten the pockets of military contractors, the admin wouldn't pay for the IDF's bombs, and the whole question would be moot
If there’s one thing the Biden administration is great at, it’s finding a way to piss off everyone while simultaneously accomplishing absolutely nothing. We did it Joe!
Well, I'm sure they *intended* it to be the toehold of a new US military base, but our cheapness and laziness and determination to fatten the pockets of private contractors has once again surpassed our imperial ambition
That would imply still having the Seabeas and not having to outsource to some no name MIC stooges who built something that wouldn't survive a small wave and some wind.
Well, Mulberries were developed by the British Admiralty and built in shipyards around the UK. I'm sure we'd still help under the Special Relationship 😎⚓
Big reasons for defense spending:
1) giving money to defense contractors, & - to a lesser extent - to defense contractor workers
2) ensuring that money *doesn't* go to meaningfully helping the poor
3) These two add up to empowering the caste system - allocating wealth & power to groups for effect
