I wonder how the various Law & Order casting directors decide enough time has passed to clear a character actor to come back in a different role

there it is. "The congestion tax is not only a burden on police officers and other essential commuters — it’s bad for public safety,” said Patrick Hendry, president of the city’s police union, in the first of the two releases. nysfocus.com/2024/06/07/h...
starting to wonder if congestion pricing was paused because the NYPD cops who commute from long island threatened a revolt and eric adams was like kathy, we can't have that

I won lottery tickets to Cabaret tonight and I feel very strange sitting next to people who could afford to spend $1,000 on their pair of seats

the perfect night at the theatre is seeing a play less than two hours with no intermission and a 7pm curtain staged at a venue outside of times square

Today, I overheard my neighbors playing Chappell Roan and Taylor Swift back to back with the Grateful Dead and I’m obsessed with that sequencing

@bebeneuwirth.bsky.social I’m coming back to see Cabaret post-opening tonight. I’m not sure if you’re doing any socializing at the stage door for this show but I’ll be there tonight if you have a moment to chat. Either way I’m excited to see how you’ve settled into this role!💚

Domestic violence is a kind of small-scale terrorism. What OJ Simpson did to Nicole Brown Simpson was not the event of one night—it was a years long campaign that thousands of women suffer at other men’s hands. Read Andrea Dworkin’s memorial to Nicole: evergreenreview.com/read/in-memo...

And it’s not just organization. It’s the participation that creates and maintains intellectual community, too. Did you ever note who was and who wasn’t at a scholarly event on zoom during the pandemic?
A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. The bit that gets me:”The male associate professors in particular made it clear that they actively engaged in evasiveness and did not want to participate if it was not positive for their careers”

One of my main takeaways from Dune 2 is that I find it hard to watch movies with Josh Brolin because every time he's onscreen all I can think is "lol that's Barbra Streisand's stepson"

Here's something I wrote about Bernadette Peters in 2021, right before I was accepted into my Theatre PhD program of choice. Now, three years later I'm working on my dissertation proposal in which she will be a touchstone for my exploration of the musical theatre diva! Time flies.
Diva Prose: Bernadette Peters — Diva Drivelwww.divadrivel.com Thinking about diva-ness in relationship to Bernadette Peters is a curious task because while she’s often called a diva, writers usually clarify that she doesn’t demonstrate the typical negative tra...

The proposed “fix” legislation in Alabama would make fetuses and embryos persons *only* when they are inside a uterus—that is, only when they can be maximally useful as a pretext for the surveillance, control, and punishment of women.
I get why people are focusing on IVF rn but fetal personhood is fundamentally incompatible with female personhood and making a carve out for IVF doesn’t fix that

One day we’re going to need to reckon with the dignity harm that these sexist little public absurdities impose on women. That there is a legal ruling saying that frozen cells are women’s legal equals is profoundly humiliating, and is meant to be.
i cannot believe we’re arguing whether or not a frozen embryo is a person. once again i must say it’s fucking wild living in a country in decline.

With the Alabama ruling about IVF embryos, the pro-forced birth movement continues to leap beyond the experience and policy preferences of most Americans. Republicans are not governing like a party that wants to win office by appealing to the most people. www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...

Watched Dr Jasmine Cobb give a remarkable talk on this infamous Jan 6 image yesterday. Can’t do it justice here, but she reminded us that our offense depends on pretending this room doesn’t have a portrait of slaver secessionist John C. Calhoun (far left) & bust of criminal Richard Nixon (far right)
