Bob Mortimer seems like the happiest, jolliest man who has ever lived.

When I first listened to MURDER BALLADS 28 years ago, I didn't imagine, much as I liked that album, that Nick Cave would come to be one of the most important artists in my life. I feel connected to him, through our separate grief, and in our struggles with faith. www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8qm...

There was a piece in The New Yorker on the history of refrigeration a couple months ago that touched upon this. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...

Outside of a father taking his daughter to a concert in Philadelphia, which I suppose is possible, I don't think any of the things that happen in this movie would or could happen in reality. I enjoyed it.

Philip Seymour Hoffman would have (should have) turned 56 today. I've moved my 2014 obituary of the great actor to my substack. billryan64.substack.com/p/hoffman

Dennis Farina, passed 11 years ago today. He shopped at the Target I worked at in AZ in the 90s. Once he asked me, "Hey buddy, where you keep the plungers?" I took him to them, then told him I was a fan. He said, "Great, just don't call the National Enquirer and tell ‘em my shitter’s clogged!"

Last night I dreamed that a woman I used to work with over 10 years ago and who I haven't seen since told me that no, I was wrong, there was a 4K of THE GHOULIES II coming out very soon. This was a dream my brain thought my subconscious should provide to me.

This almost happened to the last book I edited. It was a glitch introduced by Word when the file was passed between different people. It replaced random words with a string of nonsense that couldn't be recognised by the find function. I only noticed by accident & it took *days* to fix manually... 😬

I'm reading this book, and on page 75 I came across this phrase: "I woke up with her words in my head, I showered with them in my head, I niveli off..." I like to think I'm up on British slang, but I had no clue what this could mean 1/3

I need to choose a book to read. I was going to go with THE CHEFFE by Marie NDiaye but it doesn't have any chapter breaks and I don't need that in my life right now.

"I myself do not share Ligotti’s view of life as essentially catastrophic, existence as immoral. But it’s not necessary to 'agree' with art in order to appreciate it, to even love it." I'd never heard of Thomas Ligotti but I'm adding his stories to my list after reading this celebration of him!
Today, Thomas Ligotti turns 71. Why not celebrate something he believes should have never happened by reading my article about what makes him such a great writer? www.thebulwark.com/p/thomas-lig...
