Where do people keep getting this notion that Trump is like trouncing Biden in all these polls? They’re practically tied nationally and Trump is for now barely edging out Biden in several swing states, by amounts under the margin of error

In 2022, Vance unleashed an unhinged theory on Tucker Carlson's show that his Dem opponent was planning on "flooding America with illegal aliens and then using American tax dollars to fund gender reassignment surgeries for those aliens" www.advocate.com/news/2022/11...
GOP Senate Hopeful Says Dems Want to Turn Immigrants Transgenderwww.advocate.com Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance, the author of Hillbilly Elegy, says that Democrats are bringing "illegal immigrants" to the U.S. to turn them trans.

Excellent points. One additional bright—Vance doesn’t help Trump in any traditional electoral sense, but I suspect the pick helped bring Elon, Sacks, Ackman, and Thiel on board. Or, to put it another way, “funding secured”

I'm sorry, AP, but this is not "good fortune." This is a concerted effort by judges at all levels to derail the prospect of legal accountability for Trump. If we can't describe that as it is then what are we doing here apnews.com/article/trum...

To answer my own question, now it actually looks like the straightest path from this to a Trump win is that Dems just stop attacking him to “heal the country” or whatever and he spreads his filth unimpeded
I’m genuinely not sure I understand the “this makes him win the election” view. Why would it? Why would anyone who wasn’t going to vote for him vote for him because of this

Look obviously the Biden team shouldn’t intimate that it’s alright for people to shoot at Trump, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea to come out in force and say “this is what happens when you a dedicate your political career to normalizing political violence. This is the world Trump wanted.”

I mean, does it?? This seems like quite the definitive statement for something that’s very unclear
The assassination attempt on Trump upends an already volatile and unpredictable presidential campaign. It also appears to irrevocably alter the political landscape in the former president's favor ahead of elections. Read the Balance of Power newsletter

Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

As someone who spent months kind of bewildered by the existence of project 2025 and the fact that nobody was talking about it, don’t know why this sudden news cycle came when it did but I’m glad

I guess someday there'll be studies on how, facing the explicit and unrelenting march of fascism while having the best economy in years to boast about, the Democrats went with "circular firing squad" four months before the election

Someday as Trump is busy dissolving the government and ordering troops into cities (or rather his frothing fascists are while Trump is off golfing) I think we will genuinely wonder why the Democrats decided to publicly self-immolate because their candidate stumbled a little on TV
Avatar
I know that the conventional wisdom is this won’t work but every time Biden has let some of this attitude slip in it’s been pretty popular
I think one major factor in the exhaustion/disappointment around the Biden campaign is the same as what happened with the Clinton campaign in '16, namely that both candidates should be absolutely murdering Trump, stunting on him 24/7 for being a stupid asshole who hates everyone, and they're not

I tried to read this with an open mind about the possibility of real concerns surfaced here, but this basically seems to boil down to "there was one violent crime and otherwise people are upset about poor people being around"

My guess is that Trump knows very little about P25 *and* it will be the blueprint for his administration. He’s famously bored by policy. He’ll appoint these people because they’re loyal. They’ll then go to work on the plan while he grifts, golfs, and gives two-hour speeches at rallies.

This week SCOTUS killed Chevron deference, gave Trump total immunity, and Trump was credibly tied to Epstein, and it seems to me if your campaign somehow seriously can't find a way to then change the topic of conversation in the newspapers or stop your party panicking, what are we doing here exactly

Immigration does seem to be the issue the formerly left-leaning have either thrown the towel in or gone in the opposite direction. I’ve always maintained that this is at least in part because it is the one constituency that is almost by definition unable to vote, so who cares about alienation
Something real bad is happening over on Twitter holy shit. I just saw some real bad tweets about immigrants from folks I had previously thought were anti-racist progressives

I do wonder where the immunity ruling leaves the claim that Rudy Giuliani and Trump were trying to sell pardons for $2 million. Pardons are an official act.
Avatar
As dorks come out and say "akshually only 'core' functions are fully immune, others are just presumptively so," remember: a lot can be contorted to fit into "core" here, and who gets to the decide what's core and what defeats the presumption? Why the courts, of course. More raw power for SCOTUS
Avatar
What if the Biden administration decided it was an official act to disregard this ruling?

I, conversely, cannot even begin to imagine how you can just have like a voice in your head all the time. How do you think??
Few things in life have shocked me as profoundly as learning some people have no inner voice/monologue. I’ve always thought I was pretty good at putting myself in other’s shoes, but this is a thing, in literal terms, I can’t fathom, at all. Veritably alien to me www.sciencealert.com/we-used-to-t...
