Sorry if I blocked you, mute doesn't quite work. (Unless you use so-called AI, then I'm not sorry.)

Kind of regret hitting "like" on ye old ttrpg labeler because I'm curious if I hadn't (it triggers the class randomizer) and then requested ancestry (which is done via messaging the labeler account), could I have just gotten the label "Human" without the class label? Because that would be hilarious.

BREAKING: Upside side down French flag spotted outside the Alitos' summer residence

When I volunteered at a summer-meal site, I got sneered at by folks who firmly believed people were using it only to save money "to buy drugs." Instead I met families working multiple jobs, saving money to pay the rent or utilities. Sneerers never took the challenge to come volunteer and meet them.
The governors of a dozen Republican-led states — AL, AK, FL, GA, IA, MS, OK, SC, SD, TX, UT, WY — opted out of a new federal food assistance program, leaving about 9.5 million students without the aid this summer
Republican-led states are blocking summer food benefits for hungry familieswww.usatoday.com Money for food is especially tight for families in a dozen states where Republican lawmakers declined to accept federal food assistance.

Poking around in open-source emoji sets and discovered the OpenMoji folks are... naturists, evidently? I feel like this gets taken a little too far in some activities.

OH WAIT he said "Mac Mini" and my brain went "Mac Air." My desktop machine is fine; it's the laptop I have somewhat considered replacing.
MicroCenter has them refurbed for a little under $600 which is probably not bad for the power but (1) I'm typing this on a literally-$65-new laptop so do I *really* need to upgrade that far and (2) the first website I checked described Linux on it as "not impossible to install" which: faint praise.

it occurs to me that i have had this M1 mac mini for more than four years now and it runs just as well and handles tasks just as effectively as it did the day i opened the box. hands down the best apple product i've ever owned

I grew up amid Hal Linden end-times fervor but had forgotten the "Church of Laodicea" (seventh church in Revelation, believed to refer to church eras) admonition in Rev 3:18: "I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich..." and 😬 www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

He had his depo-medrol shot Monday night and is finally feeling better, which means we have maybe two good weeks before the shot wears off again. Bad days are starting to outweigh the good ones for the old man. 😔
I'm not naming names but SOMEONE wants my attention.

Traffic wasn't heavy but boy howdy there were some erratic drivers out there, both ways.
Kids want picked up at 10:30. Will we encounter returning Shore traffic? STAY TUNED (the advantage of it being potential on the *return* trip is I can go out on ACE and see what the oncoming lanes look like without even asking GMaps.)

GMaps took us surface roads, not much longer than usual. Came back via ACE which was solid cars the other way, except for the area just downstream of where two of three lanes were blocked by a rear end accident. Not much body damage except the engine compartment of the car in back had caught fire. 😬

Calling it now: inflatable Bluey bumps 10-foot skeleton from the top of the "must have" list. www.michaels.com/product/35ft... (I watched a few episodes to see what the fuss was about. They're cute!)
Everybody mocked JoAnn for putting their Halloween stuff out a few weeks ago but folks, it is the Fourth of July and if you check Michael's they are *frantically* trying to catch up, "More collections coming soon!!!1!!" and item listings live but with "coming soon" because they're not stocked yet.
3.5ft. Airblown® Inflatable Halloween Bluey in Vampire Costume | Michaelswww.michaels.com Find the best Inflatables for your project. We offer the 3.5ft. Airblown® Inflatable Halloween Bluey in Vampire Costume for $50.99 with free shipping available.

I am supposed to be preparing the workroom for the new embroidery-machine stand so I can take how-to videos but yesterday's dolphin adventure got me thinking about the Blue Shark design ( silverseams.com/shop/downloa... ) and how I wanted a dolphin but with some curve to it. Anyway, a (shark) test:

Okay, I revise my guess: don't think dimensional lumber is involved after all.
It's supposed to friction-fit over the end of something vertical, maybe the wide face of a 2x4. The other one would sit on the other side of whatever it was hung on, so maybe something goes between them?

Bonus kid's SO has the day off, and I promised to drive him to their place today. Which is half an hour down the Atlantic City Expressway. In the direction of the Jersey Shore. So "half an hour" is no longer a very reliable way of describing it. 😬 (Hope it's too early for traffic to be bad...)

We are stumped by these hooks. Mirrored pair, doesn't seem to fit on 2x4 studs or rafters, clearly is a Clever Solution, but to what?

Also all the highway signs were see-something-say-something messages from NJOHSP which usually only happens right before 9/11 so... super reassuring!
Less cheerful than the dolphins: on our way to the Shore we were passed by a flatbed hauling a USMC vehicle of some sort. Aside from the Punisher on the shield thingy on the gun(?) thingy, there was a Punisher-with-Trump-hair on the side. U ok, Marines?

So, anyway, whenever you read "some scientists think", think about me and recalibrate the lower end of your expectations accordingly.

Oh, also: the word "Wildwood" kinda covers it up but look at how ridiculously deep that beach is, it's like hiking across a whole desert to get to the water (there are shuttles!). It's my second least favorite beach (Atlantic City is the least, the boardwalk is full of speakers playing commercials).
Anyway the bunker was so dense we were seeing individual fish jumping out, and the ospreys and pelicans gave us a bit of a show. Here's where the boat goes, out and back, and the circle way up top is the Borgata Hotel, a big chonk of building out on the horizon. Bunker was *super* close.
