I really do want to emphasize this point: as a long term Midtown resident, I’ve walked up & down 8th Ave countless times. The sidewalks would frequently get so absolutely choked with pedestrians that ppl were forced to *walk in traffic.* The sidewalk expansions have helped alleviate that.
"The roadway once carried between four and six lanes for motor vehicles, despite 88 percent of people in the area traveling on foot and squeezing into 30 percent of the space." And now Adams wants to give it back to cars?
What Adams is proposing here would literally make this street more dangerous. Like a lot of other instances of his dumb ideas, he is advocating for a direct and tangible quality of life reduction.
