I miss when debates felt incoherent because the candidates were smarter and more informed than me, not the other way around

For a project (I was writing a book lol) I watched every televised debate from JFK/Nixon to Clinton/Trump (including VP debates) and of those, there were VERY few moments that weren't a complete bummer, knowing what I know now. You can really see the wedge issues develop in real time though lol

if it helps: they were never that, you were just young

It's possible I mean the first time I was sentient enough was the BUSH ERA dude was not exactly known for being articulate or not a war criminal
