This month I'm a guest blogger on The SCBWI Blog. Today I wrote about establishing a strong author-agent relationship, sharing some advice from my agent Wendi Gu and author Gabi Snyder. What other tips do you have? #kidlit scbwi.blogspot.com/2024/07/esta...

As my kids have grown out of the little-kid-awed-by-everything stage, it’s become trickier to do something that genuinely surprises them. This week I took them on a covert side quest to feed ostriches. Mom’s still got it!

This week my latest #kidlit book came out, and I was interviewed by Psychology Today about its inspiration. I hope I CAN DO IT EVEN IF I'M SCARED, illustrated by Hannah George, helps kids learn to find their brave selves in the face of fear and self-doubt. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/well...
Bringing CBT to Young Readerswww.psychologytoday.com Lisa Katzenberger’s picture book, I CAN DO IT EVEN IF I’M SCARED, offers children a valuable example of the popular cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) technique, “Act As If.”

Why stick with a bald eagle when you can go with a patriotic marbled shrimp? Check out the stars and stripes on that tail! These shrimp have a wild variety of color and patterns, this one was pretty unique. Off Ulua beach a few years ago. (Saron marmoratus) 📷🌿🐙

This is the explicit goal of an astonishing amount of paid (and paid for!) propaganda out there. If you're feeling voting doesn't matter, maybe consider why it is so many people are spending so much money, time, effort and ad space trying to convince you not to.

This is a fascinating look at the way information is received, processed, and responded to by audiences across platforms.
There was an even bigger difference in the comments received. All on Threads and all but one here were positive, constructive, or neutral (one person was just being a jerk, not a troll). Only 18% on X were positive or neutral. The rest were negative, many highly so.

I’m on a college campus today that has a preschool. The teachers just rolled by pushing giant covered strollers in a caravan. Guess what they stopped to see? The construction site, of course!

Watching Quincy Wilson run this week has been such a joy. I was talking with my own high schooler about how cool it must be to be at the Olympic Trials wearing your high school kit and being coached by your high school coach. I hope he makes the 4x400m relay!
My absolute favorite thing in sports right now is 16 year old Quincy Wilson running a 44.66 second 400m at the U.S. Olympic trials. This is so insanely fast that it broke Usain Bolt's under 18 WR. 400 meters is one lap around the track, pretty much a full sprint. Oh I love it!
