Please, please take a minute to read this. It got around on The Bad Place - but we'll need to do some outreach/education here on Faked and Cruel "nature" photos. www.pbs.org/newshour/sci...
You didn't know that you needed a picture of a tiny frog riding a giant beetle, but now you do.
When whimsical wildlife photography isn't what it seemswww.pbs.org This photo looks cute, but it reveals the cloudy intersection of wildlife photography, animal welfare issues and photojournalism integrity.

We have survived the heat wave! While still warm and in the high 80's and 90's it is much better than triple digits! 🌱

I am somehow for the first time seeing the movie Dark Waters and I have some major paperwork envy! Why is my dream job being locked away with boxes of random paperwork to sort through, categorize, and connect, and why does it not pay me enough to be possible!

Heatwave means an early start to #Caturday! On the plus side I get to hang out with these beautiful dahlias, including my first seedling of the year, from my bee pollinated collarette dahlias last year.

Hard to believe it has been one year with Gary! This guy was thrown out a truck window as a kitten, then adopted and returned to the shelter due to being high energy! Finally after a year and four other cats he has settled in and found his off switch.

Went through some old photos today and found this one from 2021! I think my hydrangeas have grown up a bit! These are little lime and zorro. 🌱

Finished up our AIS/SJI tours today, Miller's Manor Gardens, Misty River Iris, and one of my favorite places in the world, Mid-America/Sebright gardens! I don't think I've ever walked away from Sebright without a purchase before, so I guess I need to go back! 🌱

Our second stop today was Mt. Pleasant Iris garden. Home of many truly wonderful Japanese Iris! I have never seen this many in bloom in one place and I am in love! 🌱

Some photos from the first leg of our garden tours today as part of the American Iris Society and Society for Japanese Iris convention in Portland this year! 🌱

Woke up this morning to rain! I love the way the rain drops look like jewels on the plants. A very early rose of sharon bloom, ripening blueberries, a marguerite daisy with some verbena, and st. John's wart showing off both blooms and berries. 🌱

The hydrangeas are starting! Lanarth white, Ayesha, an unknown serrata, and Painter's palette. We have around 27 planted out and it pots! They bring me great joy and are easy to care for. There truly is a hydrangea for every garden! 🌱

A few weeks ago, I went to Harrisburg, PA, to get a sense of how organizers in the heavily Black, routinely overlooked city are tackling voter apathy, and how their efforts fit with work being done across battleground states. Here's my story: capitalbnews.org/black-voter-...
Voter Apathy Is Real. Here’s How Black Organizers Are Tackling It.capitalbnews.org “We can’t bark at people to go to the ballot box when we’re not acknowledging what they’re going through,” one advocate says.

Did you know it's July?! My wonderful partner just surprised me (or rather the mailman did) with the complete discworld emporium collection as a birthday present! Unfortunately, box 1 is running behind the others so not yet the full set. But it does give me time to organize the shelves!

I just donated to Locus magazine! I discovered Locus through Bluesky and am glad that I could chip in. igg.me/at/locusmag2...

Spring is here! Lots of cleanup and work to do, but finally some sunny, dry days. 🌱

Hey @darthbluesky.bsky.social may I ask a birthday favor? Today Chalupa (that my friend found in the TacoBell drive thru in TX) is available for adoption after her stray hold has ended. Will you post her link for me? All I want for my birthday is a home for her.

Just starting to bloom today is euphorbia blackbird! It hasn't reached peak orange bloom yet, but puts on quite a show once it gets there. 🌱

Hellebores starting to push new leaves. Bulbs coming in and ferns still need cutting back. I think we are in third spring of deception! Rain starts on Wednesday. 🌱

Bluesky happy ending drama!
OMG WE FOUND HIM. THE PEOPLE HOLDING HIM WERE ALSO GOOD SAMARITANS. THEY MADE CHRISTIAN IDENTIFY HIM BY HIS SHELL DAMAGE. HE'S GOING TO BE COMING HOME BUT HE IS FUCKING ANOTHER TURTLE RIGHT NOW. OOPS.
