Visited Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland yesterday - wow. Incredibly detailed and downright overwhelming in size. Highly recommended. Hope @interurbanera.bsky.social can get there someday.
Now properly grimy from handling back to back secondary mail trains and the hotshot piggyback "Transfronteriza" the PA is almost done. Had to order new cab glass & MU hoses to finish off the front end.
ebay find of the day: I had no idea that Rapido made the entire Canadian in a single box train set for you to purchase, with SOUND and DCC! $2800 USD

Probably my favorite GS-4 variant, the semi-Daylight 4438 that got its skirting removed but was later repainted into Daylight again after the war briefly.
So broadly it's three paint jobs spread over eras:
1927 forward all heavyweights are painted SP "Dark Olive"
1955 we ordered "La Monarca" and it has its own beautiful orange/white/gray paintjob for that train specifically
1955+ lightweight cars are unpainted stainless like the ATSF.
I can't remember if you've already covered it, but what's your plan for ALTA passenger stock? Stainless/Aluminium, Classic painted steel bodies, mix-n-match?

Also, their laser sintering printing technology produced inferior detail models compared to SLA resin for the last few years. Very few of the "fine detail plastic" parts I ordered were good enough to use in HO scale models because they were so gritty.
I will definitely miss the passive income tho.
Shapeways' prices kept rising, becoming noncompetitive with companies like Craftcloud3d, and ignoring the stunning rise of home 3d printing capacity. An attempted pivot to higher-end processes for "professional" prototyping also failed to generate enough income.

If you touch the pressed steel end of this boxcar, you'll be transported to another dimension...
The old "Van Dorn" style ends are so fascinating.

Need a shelf layout idea? How about the Santa Fe freight terminal in San Francisco set in the late 1930's-40's.
Compact layout with A+ backdrop scenery and solid operational interest with State Belt motive power.
