VANILLA SKY is the one where I can feel an absurdly high-rated review rumbling up; who the hell even talks about that movie but I think it’s a masterpiece, and maybe the one vampiric American remake of a recent foreign film that built on it wonderfully and ended up far better
It's functionally an extended visual essay on how Tom Cruise's own charisma is a constructed, weaponized edifice (Magnolia gets this too) and punishes him for it. And it lets Carmen Diaz get creepy.
