If I did not want to feel terrible watching media, I simply would not treat art as a puzzle that I needed to solve in order to prove how much smarter I was than the creators.
I think there are people who enjoy that and people who don’t (I hate magic shows unless I know the trick) but like, you gotta know which you are and for what media!
I did film at uni, one of the first things we were told was "You'll never enjoy movies in the same way again." they were wrong.
The first watch is purely for enjoyment, if you want to beak it down any further you either do it afterward or if need be you watch it again.
Yeah, learning about film, art, or creative writing give you a real insight into how the magic gets done and if anything makes you appreciate when it’s done well all the more
I also watch a lot of media critics (especially the super caustic ones) and never once has it impacted my enjoyment of movies. The anayltical part of my brain just kinda... shuts off when I'm watching anything.
