The "backpacker on vacation" line calls to mind (though apparently not Gorsuch's) the famous line from Anatole France about the law, in its majestic equality, forbidding both rich and poor to sleep under bridges.

I go back and forth but I appreciate Alito not bothering with the convolutions of the rest. Don’t insult me by giving me common law gibberish and potted history of England’s early courts when I know how you voted on previous cases with different plaintiffs wanting jury trials.
