The first result on my Google search (heh, I know) said overall US electricity generation generates about 1lb of CO2 per kWh.
So it only takes a few thousand Google queries to generate 1lb of CO2?
Thinking about the extra energy use is uncomfortable. Google handles tens of thousands of queries every second (exact estimates vary). Standard Google queries formerly used about 1 kJ of energy each, while ChatGPT4 queries can use anywhere from 3-36 kJ each. That's a lot of energy for wrong answers.
