Alchemist? I’d have preferred Bard or Rogue, but I’ll take it.

Sure are a lot of people in the UK voting for the xenophobia and fascism party. I’m sure this is fine.

I’ve seen a LOT of people on the skyline talking about having, or recovering from, covid lately. Please stay safe out there, everyone.
New: US and UK slammed by bad surges nationwide, CDC quietly acknowledges covid isn't seasonal and recommends layered protection (after 4+ years of us begging them to), video of an experimental long covid body scan at UCSF, Stevie Nicks masking, and more: www.patreon.com/posts/pandem...

The highlight of my evening is the sign language guy. I love him. Also there's some politics going on in the background I guess.

On this 4th of July, let us remember the absolute, incredible luck of humanity that, against all odds, the Alien mothership was Mac compatible.

UK politics is a garbage fire, but if the conservatives end up in third place and lose all government power, it’ll be the funniest possible result.
Guidance for US people trying to understand the UK election results later: Tories under 150 seats: LOL Tories under 120 seats: LMAO Tories under 100 seats: ROFL

About halfway through, Ed hits on a point that I've been hammering on since the AI boom started: why should anyone care about this? There is no reason for the average consumer to adopt this technology.
Was awesome to join @adamconover.bsky.social on the Factually show to talk about the AI bubble and the general state of the tech industry. youtu.be/T8ByoAt5gCA?... podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...
The A.I. Bubble is Bursting with Ed Zitronyoutu.be Big tech is betting tens of billions of dollars on AI being the next big thing, but what if it isn't? ChatGPT burns obscene amounts of cash daily with little return, Google's AI dispenses useless and sometimes dangerous advice, and a recent study showed that tech companies will soon run out of new training data to improve their AI models. If AI is really so costly, unreliable, and limited, what happens to the industry that has bet so big on it? This week, Adam talks with journalist and influential tech critic Ed Zitron of wheresyoured.at to discuss the impending burst of the AI bubble, the hubris of Silicon Valley, and how we suffer under big tech's "Rot Economy." With any form of actual creativity, the more you create, the more you improve your craft. I have over 2000 photographs on my phone right now, and this is a low number for me. For each one I take, I get slightly better. I'll never stop learning. But GenAI will always just be typing text into a box.

Following the Industrial Revolution, the smog in London got so bad that everything outdoors became really blackened and grody from soot. At least one species of moth evolved to have darker colouration on its wings, for better camouflage.
It's worth googling the Great Smog of London to see how far we've come. Images like this from the 1950s. It was caused in part from burning coal

And if anyone wants to auto-check if writing was generated by AI, they pay even more money for AI to do that too.
students use AI to generate essays; educators use AI to grade it… AI that is built on the backbone of stolen data and packaged as a shiny EdTech tool that educational institutes have to pay a fortune for… folks, do you see who benefits from all of this?

OK besides this below and DEVO coming out of the Kent State massacre, what are other facts you have about the evolution of art / music /etc that wouldn't be obvious if you didn't know but, retroactively, explain and/or illuminate a LOT ?

Isaac Newton is now known as a physicist, but in life he was much more an alchemist. His work in science is inseparable from his work in protoscience and the occult because, at the time, those were all the same thing. He was also a really weird guy, probably because of mercury poisoning.
