Currently questioning life choices: awake at 5am Central to catch a 9am flight then watching a 1pm Pacific soccer game on the way home from the airport.

My kid was watching a Midwest Vocabulary Challenge on Tiktok & asked me about a few items. She ended up rotfl because I nailed the accent (haven't lived in Minnesota in over 30 years).

TIL that Google Maps will navigate me onto a gravel road, if the route looks marginally shorter than a state highway

I started wearing glasses a few years ago, at age 46. My vision's been pretty stable, so I've used my benefits to acquire some different glasses. Current order of preference: 1) love the computer glasses, even walking around the house 2) single-vision sunglasses 3) no glasses 4) progressive lenses

Went to the Thorns game tonight. In honor of Pride Night at the soccer, a drag queen absolutely rocked the national anthem. So good.

And the hiring manager experience has been enshittified too. I didn't want to only see candidates who matched a few keywords which didn't encompass the full job requirements, instead I wanted to read a stack of resumes and find candidates with interesting stories.
Students, and parents, employers and professors: take note. “The better writer you are, the greater your chance of getting rejected, because you won't use keywords." www.nytimes.com/2024/05/31/o...

I haven't thought about personal carbon footprint in these units. The first result on my Google search (heh, I know) said overall US electricity generation generates about 1lb of CO2 per kWh. So it only takes a few thousand Google queries to generate 1lb of CO2?
Thinking about the extra energy use is uncomfortable. Google handles tens of thousands of queries every second (exact estimates vary). Standard Google queries formerly used about 1 kJ of energy each, while ChatGPT4 queries can use anywhere from 3-36 kJ each. That's a lot of energy for wrong answers.

Lovely, waking up two hours early & not going back to sleep because it's light outside.

That feeling when it's so bright outside that I start to reach for my sunglasses...but I'm already wearing them

Dude looks pretty tucked in for the night.

I'm so out of it this morning, I almost wore pajamas to school drop-off for the first time.

@mplscitysc.bsky.social crows for the win!
Breakthrough thread! Six weeks ago, I started feeding a very large murder of crows at dusk. Anywhere between 50 and 200 birds would show up and the bravest 30 or so would score a peanut (raw, unsalted, in the shell.)

@bsky.app I have a dumb question, how do I make a feature request? I generally like the feel of the Android app. But I wish that when I load new content into my feed, that I could stay at the same point in the feed, instead of jumping to the newest post. I prefer to read the feed chronologically.
End of feed.
