As a reporter who has dealt with politicians before, “I don’t have any news on…” traditionally doesn’t mean “we reject the idea of taking actions.” It traditionally means “we are considering our options and would want a more impactful unveiling than an putting an unprepped deputy on a group call”

To me, this reads as "We're not ready to announce what we'll do, but one thing that's off the table is blowing up the institution."

Coming from the comms side, I read this the exact same way you do.

It’s too late! The constitution HAS BEEN blown up

Do people expect a Deputy Campaign manager to make the real first public lengthy statement about SCOTUS today, and not the literal President?

I think this is correct, but quicker actions/official statements would be better.

Yeah. This shouldn't be taken to mean Biden couldn't do better or that he won't eventually mess this up. But, like, he's a deputy campaign manager doing a quick response call. He's not the person who will be announcing policy.

I get that. And like, if they want a set piece event about this, they should try to slap it together today. But I, for one, would’ve felt better if we’d heard from him today.

They should *not* try to slap it together today.
