Oh. My. God.
Put aside the nakedly dystopian nature of this.
If it were done—and can’t imagine it will—it COMPLETELY GETS THINGS WRONG.
The trauma of being a victim is often a major CAUSE of future OFFENDING.
And this program aims to TRAUMATIZE MORE!
oh my god now there's a "future of prison" startup that says it will use AI and brain implants to plant fake memories into the brains of criminals, "rehabilitating" them in minutes instead of years and I am going to spend the rest of the day screaming now

This ethics of intentionally traumatizing someone are … horrible enough.
And in exchange for psychotically unethical behavior we will … get more crime.
Evil AND counterproductive.
Just … what the absolute hell is this?? What is wrong w ppl? What is wrong w the ppl who cover this so calmly??
Even if it has zero chance of entering real-world use, it's still fucked that companies like this, with product concepts that belong on a crank blog that nobody reads, manage to get substantial enough funding runway to have staff for any period of time.
Also, that anyone would propose this as anything other than a prank is gross. (But it did make me think of Demolition Man, Total Recall, and A Clockwork Orange, in order that I remembered them, and also how ashamed I was to remember them!)
Ok but what if, hear me out, what if you made this the pitch (science torture powered by AI!) but then just used the money to actually get ppl the help and support needed. Like fraud for good.
Oops, we were effective due to incompetence!
