NYPD is barricading the occupied building, kettling the surrounding yard, and escorting press off the premises, per Columbia U radio Horrifying

Holy shit, NYPD barricaded the doors to the occupied hall and is using a lift to enter the building from upper floors, per Columbia U radio WHAT THE FUCK
Avatar
The student reporters keep reporting that the NYPD is making nonsensical demands to “get inside or get off the premises,” despite there not being anywhere to go
Avatar
NYPD is pulling students from the entrance of the hall and throwing them?? The audio keeps cutting out
Avatar
All protesters have allegedly been removed from the occupied hall
Avatar
The Columbia U radio host can’t reach the reporters that were at the occupied hall
Avatar
There is an unconscious student on the ground in front of the formerly occupied hall, per Columbia U radio; unclear what happened They also say tear gas was used, unclear whether it was interior, exterior, or both

“Our access and mobility is incredibly limited right now” —Columbia U radio reporter, re: NYPD

Columbia U radio now broadcasting on Instagram Live because their website is crashing: www.instagram.com/wkcr_oncampu...

“‘Brutal’ is the only way I can describe what I saw” —WKCR reporter on video she saw of student arrests
Avatar
There were only between 20 and 50 protesters in the occupied hall, per WKCR; the numbers of police present are far, far higher than that
Avatar
WKCR reporter is now reading an official Columbia U statement defending the decision to call in riot cops on the basis that they needed to "restore safety and order to our community"
Avatar
This is all so unbelievably fucked up
Avatar
This Columbia U statement reads like boilerplate fascist agitprop
Avatar
NYPD is currently pulling students off the ground ("quite violently, I might add" the reporter says) into Corrections vans, per WKCR
Avatar
Wow— WCKR points out that the administration has STILL not made ANY communications directly to students about these arrests, and there was no warning of the police invasion

I think they're reading a statement to the university from President Shafik? They were cutting out during the beginning of it?
Avatar
President Shafik describes the protesters as "a clear and present danger to persons, property, and the substantial functioning of the university" Good fucking lord
Avatar
President Shafik has asked the NYPD to have a permanent presence on Columbia University campus until at least May 17 WHAT

Imperial Tactics Of Control? In MY Metropole? It's More Likely Than You Think
Avatar
The WKCR hosts and reporters are talking about how their staff are starting to "succumb to emotion" and that this is immediately recognizable as a "deeply traumatic" event for the whole campus
Avatar
Reporters are pointing out that, if there were indeed "outside agitators" in the occupied hall, they must have gotten in during Columbia's total lockdown of campus buildings, which either means the lockdown wasn't even working, or the university is lying
Avatar
All I can think about is we never would have gotten here if the University President just let them stay on the lawn instead of calling the cops on them a week ago to appease congressional republicans. Like no matter your stance if you have any investment in the University demand a new President.
Avatar
Proud of the reporter who refused to read the portion of the statement regarding the university's commitment to free speech.

Every other abundant issue aside, how much tuition could be covered by the overtime they’re shelling out for that

"Educational! but not in the way you might expect"

If/When Columbia U burns to the ground, it'll be entirely the fault of Shafik, University Admin, Eric Adams, & the NYPD. I hope their enrollment is fucking nil next semester. Personally, I believe they deserve far far worse.

It's the letter to the NYPD requesting the invasion tonight
