The rabid fanbase that clambered for any scrap of lore was something most media would pay millions to get and nothing happened at all.
They had fans that didn't even play the fucking game drawing fanart for it

the cinematics were just soooo good and i really wanted them to pull an Arcane and just spinoff their lore into a series, but nooooooooo they had to fuck it up
Actiblizzion had a good thing going, the game did so well it disrupted and put an end to the Modern Warfare shooter paradigm, and was particularly popular with LGBT+ folks.
Then they shit the bed so hard they prolapsed themselves and ruined it.

The way they made an incredibly good game suck donkey balls while remaining (in isolation) an incredibly good gam should be studied. Maybe we could dissect some execs.
That could really be said about all of their games and franchises. Blizzard for a long time was my fave game maker and they managed to destroy all my good will with them with shitty, uninspired releases, and that was before *all the shittiness* they did as a company.

It's "funny" to me that they poured so much into these characters and there somehow are not a dozen spinoff games to feed the fans because no single idea was going to make a billion dollars
