Still laughing with the guy on here who had to slowly break it to his mom that Italy isn’t the anti-fash dream.
My dad legit suggested moving to Italy or France the other day and all I could do was shake my head. Also, we’re Jewish and I still prefer my chances hunkering down in NYC over many other places.
I would trust New Yorkers with my life in a heartbeat. They fight back.
Unfortunately our leaders (Adams, Hochul) are pretty shitty at the moment. Not, you know, TX or FL shitty, just shitty for NY shitty.
The leaders have always sucked, but I miss my old neighbors in Brooklyn, where we had each others backs.
My kids had been mulling over The Netherlands but are learning that right now literally everywhere sucks. We have family in Japan, but it's not great. Everywhere sucks.
But also I think this is always where colonialism was going to end up.

China would probably end up being my escape if necessary even though it's quite authoritarian just on the "devil you know" principle.
