Those of us who do prison civil rights work hope that a certain felon’s potential prison sentence leads to a national reckoning on carceral issues.

That would be hilarious and also pretty much ideal

Supposedly a bunch of the Operation Rescue terrorists (including Shelly Shannon) got into prison abolition after they ended up inside themselves. Even truly terrible people can find themselves realizing how bad it is to have a police state, once it has happened to them.
