I just saw miranda cosgrove interview Joey king over hot wings in a first we feast branded thing and it's clear buzzfeed is going to kill hot ones rather than give Sean Evans a decent contract sherwood.news/business/buz...
BuzzFeed is trying to sell YouTube sensation Hot Ones for $70Msherwood.news The First We Feast YouTube empire is still growing... but more slowly than before...

It's just such a misunderstanding of the appeal of the show. The Cosgrove thing is channeling "Actors on Actors" but with wings. And the appeal of Hot One's is when Evans asks a very deeply researched question and his role as expert guide

The fundamental tension of the show is that Evans is never going to ask an out of pocket question but his questions are going to be more insightful than your late night TV host and the guest has to answer it while in either extreme physical pain or in anticipation of such pain

Like he exists somewhere on between "actual famous person" and "everyman" which is why the Lewis Capaldi episode is so funny. And the DJ Khaled episode was revelatory

I know you weren't expecting an impassioned defense of Hot Ones but it's like one of 5 things that remains unabashedly good. Hot sauce is good. And the wings are vegan if the guest prefers them. Like.

Also a lot of the sauces featured are made by small-time makers and they get a bump in business from the show. It’s nice that people’s passion projects get recognized.

Yes as someone who has bought many of the sauces on his show either for myself or as gifts

Yeah, his questions are really good and insightful.

It's the kind of show where a famous person is never going to be mad at the questions but they might be surprised

I find many celebs very excited about the conversation, the chance to expand beyond the usual boring interview fare, and the shared experience of torture by hot sauce… 🙃

I just posted the same thing. He's a Canadian icon and does a similar but completely different thing.

Reminds me, in a way, of Nardwar The Human Serviette. Although he's also a bit more This Is Your Life with surprising pulls from the artist's past. But ridiculous concept with serious questions gets great results.
