I also strongly question the test that Joe Kahn sets here, asking whether a reader would be fully informed about Trump's plans. Here's a test I've proposed, FWIW: newrepublic.com/article/1813...

knowing that the white house just signed a massive parkinson’s bill in july changes the entire tone of this story so much that this makes it wildly, horrifically offensive
Breaking News: A Parkinson’s expert visited the White House eight times in eight months from last summer through this spring, according to official visitor logs. The administration has said that President Biden has no signs of the disease.

The media need to stop using the word “conservative” to describe fascists. MAGA isn’t trying to “conserve” American values. It’s attempting to trash bedrock democratic principles and create an America that has never existed before. My newsletter. www.stopthepresses.news/p/stop-sayin...
Stop saying “conservative” when you mean fascistwww.stopthepresses.news Media must emphasize that Republicans have trashed bedrock principles

Dear @washingtonpost.com … more coverage please on the destruction Project 2025 would cause. Voters need to know all about this before November.
Well, calling it out is a good start, @washingtonpost.com. Now: How about you do some journalism, then, and cover the GOP's 2024 platform and "Project 2025" in depth and on your front page, perhaps even without the insincere and lazy "some experts say" and "both sides" qualifiers? wapo.st/3VWvtoD
Opinion | Trump doesn’t want Americans to know what Republicans stand forwapo.st The former president wants the 2024 GOP platform to be anodyne, but don’t be fooled. He has an extreme agenda.

Some REALLY WEIRD agency going on there, Dave. "Biden's age" is not writing the political columns. Reporters with autonomy (or editors) are. Pack punditry has decided political violence is less important than one of two candidates' age.

This is a Quiet New Deal Story. The IRA has been so successful that trying to reverse the explosion of cleaner power would massively upend the economy. But a Trump administration definitely would! That's why Big Oil is giving him a billion. www.hbs.edu/bigs/gig-eco...

Ah, a return to those happy days of watching Donald Trump perfunctorily chuck toilet paper at people during natural disasters. US disaster response aid will be legally mandated to be exclusively for people with multi-million dollar coastal estates and everyone else will be permitted to drown.

The New York Times has turned itself into a malign parody of a newspaper. We need to call them out, but I wonder if we are giving them too much oxygen. What can we do to change them, or to change how news gets out?

America under Trump was fucking awful. If he gets into the White House again, it will be even worse.
I feel like there are a lot of people who have forgotten what it was like during the Trump years to wake up every morning afraid to look at your phone and see what fresh atrocity happened since you went to sleep…

Tell every person you know that the GOP wants to ban porn. Let them imagine a hellscape where they both have no human rights and no legal sources of weird smut to drown their sorrows in
Yes, I absolutely do think over half the country cares about having their basic human rights taken away by a bunch of authoritarian freaks. For Christ’s sake, Project 2025 calls for banning PORN. We can get voters mad about this.

Among the many evils of "crisis pregnancy centers": they are not medical providers and so do not follow HIPAA or medical privacy ethics. Instead, they gleefully give away (to right-wing orgs) and sell (to data brokers) all information you give them. They should be illegal.
Google “Massachusetts crisis pregnancy” and this link pops up. It’s part of a statewide campaign, including public signage (highway billboards!), urging people to avoid crisis pregnancy/anti-abortion centers. The Commonwealth is not fucking around with this.

Trump raped a woman, was revealed as being in constant contact with a sex trafficker, stole nuclear secrets, is old, forged electoral certificates, was convicted of 34 felonies, committed fraud, is literally on the Saudi payroll, sent a mob to hang his VP but the opponent is also old.
In this chat, we suggest a distinction between covering something (NYT does great reporting on Trump's autocratic plans), and *crusading.* The latter is wholly different: It uses saturation coverage to alert readers that they should be alarmed. That's just not happening w/r/t Trump's unfitness.

NY Times: You thought this election might be about an unprecedented convicted criminal running to overthrow Constitutional democracy? You think you decide the narrative? Oh no. That’s our turf. And we say the most important thing in the election—nay, the world—is Joe Biden’s age.

“ i don’t know anything about this specific plan to kill Superman, and some of it looks like a really concerning plan,” Luthor said on his website
i’m not a big “panic about Project 2025 more than any other specific indication that Donald Trump intends to govern like a dictatorial fascist” person but him denying it is really supervillainy in itself, it feels like a thing Presidential Candidate Lex Luthor would do

“They want to eliminate national parks” is a very simple way to get just about anyone on the Stop Project 2025 train. Are there much more glaring and life-threatening goals of P25? Yes but even your most bigoted cousin does not want to see the parks system sold for parts.
This!! Start with “they want to end no fault divorce, sell national parks, and ban porn” end with tax structure.

We need more, but credit where due: both The Nation (June 2024 issue) and Boston Review have run a breakdown of the Project 2025 “Mandate for Leadership” document. Media Matters, too. Lots of good work going on digesting this. www.bostonreview.net/articles/ins... www.mediamatters.org/project-2025
Where are the columnists who are experts in specific fields, breaking down what the Heritage Foundation + Trump want to do to each individual federal agency? E.g. I read the section dedicated to our intelligence agencies, and had to stop, since I was starting to feel a little nauseous.
