Okay NEW THEORY: It isn't just the general anxiety/despair/dread people are venting at strangers, it's that there are no big politician accounts here to yell at. So instead of yelling at the people in charge, everyone just displaces that on strangers they use as proxies, and snip at one another.

This is why I delete anything that goes outside my circle. I have zero interest in my QTs and replies flooded with stupid. I'd tell everyone to go touch grass before showing up in a stranger's feed to argue, but that'll probably cause another argument. Sigh.

Jesus Haploid Christ, this place is becoming like Twitter more and more each day. People arguing with you for no reason. People arguing about an area in which you have expertise. Reply cowboys with weak rhetoric skills. Time to plot my exit strategy. I am not doing that Twitter nonsense again.

I went to TWITTER for a BREAK from Bluesky just now and felt better, like Krista, I need to sit with this information for a moment. It was so nice to just laugh at some shitposts and not have someone pick a fight with me.

So Reddit finally bullied me into reading Scalzi's Old Man's War. Now, it wasn't because I didn't want to! I own the first 3! It's not that I don't like Scalzi's work - I've read nearly ever other book and short story by the man. It's just that I wasn't ready to commit to a new series. Time to jump

This sums up my overall relationship with bluesky & why I frequently delete any post that goes beyond my circle: I am not interesting in my replies/QTs turned into a screaming anxiety rant. And I've been noticing for months now that there is a group of users who do that over the smallest things

Yeah, that--like I acknowledged I see where this is coming from, but I don't have a lot of grace for total strangers venting their anxiety in the form of being hostile to people they don't know. I'm terrified about my own situation too and I don't go looking for randos to yell at on the TL.

I think there are a few factors but the overall vibe of everyone anxious and stressed with hair-trigger reactions has gotten really bad lately. And it's not like I'm not reactive myself, but I tend to confine it to strangers who pick fights with me; I don't go looking in the TL for it.

I know we all feel like we're crammed into a confined space pitching toward certain death with no one at the controls, but the number of folks wading into strangers' mentions to pick fights lately is really over the top.
