Who told Apple TV that when you air a baseball game, you put the batter’s name in tiny white print in the lower right hand corner, which is not where ANYBODY will look for it? Is this another thing where Apple is convinced it can make everything look cooler?

Off topic, but I enjoy that every time you discuss baseball, you are watching the Phillies.

A great year! In spite of a spate of injuries to key guys.

The apple TV broadcasts sucks in so many ways, and totally agree the name placement is insane. as an aside did you ever listen to the Effectively Wild episode where they interviewed the CEO of the company doing those probability counts that mostly feel like randomly generated numbers it's wild

Ohhh, I didn’t! (I was on that show once about my baseball book!) It is an extremely bad situation with graphics all around, and I agree that it’s unlikely they have wisely invented a reliable new statistic.

Thank you, I bet it will make me irate!

Pitcher’s name and pitch count nowhere, but a LOT of real estate dedicated to the pitch clock? 🤷‍♂️

So this isn't exactly how I would do it but I think I like this more than the big banner we're used to. So much more grass and game!

Same. I don't know that I'd want every game to look like this but I like the change of pace and especially that it throws more focus to the game itself.
Avatar
I get it, but I don’t think making it a little bit bigger and moving it out of that corner would do any harm.

I think we'd eventually get to used to wherever they put it. As to the size I agree very much. This feels like an Apple thing of swinging too far to simplicity and a clean look. They could put stuff in there w/o taking up the entire bottom. Are there any outs? What is the pitch count? Baserunners?

What I like rooting for Reach Base Probability.

An absolutely real stat definitely.

Is it different than OBP? Or is this renaming for non-baseball audience?

Yeah every time I’ve watched a game on Apple it’s been an eye test.

When they got the Friday night deal, I bemoaned the splintering, but honestly thought to myself, “At least they’re Apple, I bet they come up with an elegant presentation unbound by convention.” Instead, we get something worse and yet still conventional. So frustrating!

Can't block the Fanduel ad. If I were a betting woman, my money is on that reason.

It's absurd. I watched one game on apple TV and was like "absolutely not. Do not form-over-function a fuggin baseball game." and unsubscribed.

It’s not just this, it’s the stupid box to show where the pitch was, how fast it was going, the endless worthless “stats”, launch angles, WAR, ugh! Baseball on tv, on any network, is unwatchable to me. It’s been called the beautiful game, but tv won’t let you see it.

Ah yes, god forbid you don't have a nice clean view of the pitcher's mound, unsullied without having pesky names obscuring it!

That's nowhere near the batter!
