I will pay to subscribe, for one year at least, to any pro writer I follow here or who leaves substack for a site that bans Nazis. I hope other readers will do likewise.
i will be figuring out how to migrate my free newsletter, even if that comes with costs (substack comes with costs too, they are just folded into their VC funding so it's free to me. but at societal costs).
FWIW, here's a step-by-step of how I used Blogger and Mailchimp to build a free blog/newsletter (fewer than 2,000 subs). docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Alright. I’m catching up. Had no idea this was a thing. But then I remembered we have our own local bully with a substack and she just helped flip our council from blue to whatever effed up color libertarian is. I think it could be green for money.
mine is small and new so about 100, but i know they host really large ones incl ones migrated from substack - they're on bsky explaining their migration and newsletter tools to lots of newly interested parties
I can budget for this. Paid subscription, for at least one year, to a pro writer who needs their newsletter income, that I follow here who leaves substack for a site that bans nazis.
I restarted my Ko-Fi & Patreon yesterday. Until I find another newsletter option, I’m just going to go with these, and provide both writing and art. Links here.

I was considering a substack but not now. I'm not too impressed with WordPress and haven't written for sometime. I have a locked WP that I keep my MLIS project on and an open one that I've only used a few time.
I haven't had a chance to wade into the drama. Is there a primer somewhere so I don't have to spend an hour chasing comments?
Is it beyond a free-speech issue?
there is no free speech issue when it comes to a private corporation making choices about who it does and doesn't want to a) let on their platform and b) monetize and c) actively promote. It's just choices.
That's fine. And it's everyone's choice to go somewhere else. No one is compelled to use their platform.
My point is the most consistent and defensible position to take is 1A. And not Musk's bullshit version, which is just censorship by a different name.
I’m not a pro-writer but I have a twitch stream and I talk a lot.
does that count? the talking is sometimes about where and how the far right is taking over communities, but also sometimes about how capitalism and/or American healthcare sucks, or why the video game I’m playing is super cool.
