(Power sued somebody for calling her a Nazi on Twitter. During discovery she turned over WhatsApp messages, some of which were about her love of Mein Kampf. She also turned out to be using a groyper Twitter alt to hassle people. She is now bankrupt and even cryptofash Compact Mag doesn’t want her.)

CNN fact checked whether I in fact caught walleye while wearing a specific hat more thoroughly than the NYT checked whether the “I dont vote” guy actually voted.

Lmao they just changed the title of the piece from “Why I don’t vote” to “Why I won’t vote” rather than tell readers that the guy actually does vote

Any time I publish something with Teen Vogue, the fact-checkers lay siege to me. EVERYTHING has to be backed up. And you know what? As exhausting as it is in the moment, it makes a better piece.
I have published hundreds of opinion essays (as well as reported features and other kinds of pieces). But just for opinion essays – and they have always required a certain minimum level of evidence, and sometimes a ton of evidence.

Still angry about this one.
A few years ago, Marc A. Thiessen ran an opinion piece whose title claimed "[v]accinated Americans are more likely to die from a lightning strike than covid" Naturally, he was comparing a yearly risk of COVID-19 death to a lifetime risk of lightning death, even according to his own linked source.

absolutely cannot believe that all 100 slots sold out, but let’s keep going! if we get to 120 I’ll do three separate sessions which will give everyone a wider choice of dates and still keep the group size manageable for a Q&A! $12,000 for voting rights, let’s go!!
Did you miss out on the grantwriting class with Claire Willett? Now's your chance. She's generously offered to add 20 more slots--and one additional class--for all our participants. www.32auctions.com/o...

Imagine writing the "I don't wear that hat anymore" piece in a world where your choice of hat was recorded in a public register every day, and just deciding to brazen through it while wearing the hat.

Deleted that because I thought the subject of the second clause was unclear. Hang on.

As someone that has published multiple pieces in the Times and continue to admire the work of many of their journalists this was a hard and depressing decision for me

Among other things … this isn’t true in terms of the history of power. The idea of an absolute sovereign totally unrestrained by law is rare rather than common.
More anti-democratic thoughts from 2018 the NYT allowed this writer to exclude from his current piece. Delivered with an air of detached irony, as if he miiight be joking or exaggerating. But is he?

Yes. We didn't need to create it in the first place, but the second best thing is to dismantle the fascist scaffolding we put in place post-9/11, now.

on the other hand one of the loons is just sitting mid-lake, calling, and the baby loon (a few weeks now, so not as fragile as it was!) is nowhere to be seen. oy.
so there's a bunch of tiny downy woodpeckers flying around our feeders. one - it's the same one each time - is going to the suet cake, pecking at it, flying back to a tree, and feeding it to the others. ADORABLE

So back in the dark ages (2012-2015) CNN had comment sections and there was always a fraction of responses trying to discredit me as not a real man. It’s the same, just now in emails and scattered around my socials.
I’m terribly amused by the troll trying to shame me for using 1 7/8 tow ball for my boat … as if it’s more manly to use the wrong equipment.

Functional political systems are *supposed to be* boring! It should be sewage specialists arguing over what size pipe is most efficient for the city layout! It should be debates over whether to put a mural or a frieze in the new park! “Interesting politics” are when people start dying!

“Politics would be interesting again” is the most telling line here. They find all this boring I guess.

There are multiple people in the WaPo comments saying they wish there was something like this where they live. FYI, if you want a cat tour, pick a date, announce a meeting place, and lead whoever shows up on a neighborhood walk looking for cats hanging out in windows.
