Chicken soup for the soul... canyon country never gets old.

This recently fun-employed narwhal skipped to the desert to complete a hike on my forever list. May the calm of the natural world flow freely into your body.

I know it's late in the day, but I worked hard on getting this all polished today so I still wanted to do the soft launch before I settle into more relaxing tasks for the evening! New website for my engineering management consulting services is now up! (A few important details in thread...)

The least interesting thing about myself nowadays is that I work in tech. In the past, I've held this up as part of my identity, but not so much these days. That said, the company I'm currently aligned with gives more than two shits about this world. Something I'm proud of. planet.com

Deep in the heart of the Bears Ears National Monument wilderness, we found an old-growth ponderosa pine. It's fragrance sweet, fresh vanilla beans, with the scratch marks of a young bear cub near it's base.

In other news, for those who work in risk management, tabletop exercises work (-: Last night & before going to school this morning, the kid and I role-played several scenarios, ranging from smooth to Oops, zombies chase the bus. This ended up being an excellent self-esteem-building experience.
/me must show humility and understanding ... benefit of the doubt .. Also /me slightly raging inside. How the /f/ did the school bus route administrator /f/ up the instructions my kid was to use to ride the bus home? Is it not your job to give parents correct instructions? You had one job.

Other springtime activities include the all important smelling of boats at the 4 corners swap. And voting at the cast iron “dutch oven” cooking event.

It's springtime in the southwest—one of my favorite seasons.

I love being able to cut through my neighbor’s hedges and hop onto this trail. I’ve been trying to be better about getting away from the keyboard each day to do something, anything, active.

I am so impressed, and I want to celebrate my partner! She has been developing this product idea—the First Moon Journal — for quite some time. It's become real! We have several thousand journals about to be shipped to our house. bleedingmoons.org

So I'm told ... sometimes, places adopt us and become home to our souls. I've been coming here for 25 years, and each time I return, it's like sitting down with a close friend. The remoteness, solitude, and beauty are always welcoming. It is where I go to heal or simply exist with myself.

On Lent. One of the most .. let me correct that, the most impactful post I've read in 2024 is kateviolette.com/2024/02/15/o.... Kate is a beautiful and talented person. Let their words open your heart to loss, survival, and stubbornly beautiful strength.

To ring in 2024, we took a siesta from the connected world. My path in life continues to resemble a circle. For many of us, these past few years have strained relationships, including with ourselves. The more time I spend in tech the more unapologetic I become. Ensuring it doesn't define who I am.

Still a bit early in the season for the San Juan Mountains, but oi, it's beautiful! Caught some skiing with the kid and also got out for a hike. I'm thankful for where we live and our health on days like these. Neither of which I take for granted.

My father and I plotted and made a trip to Bluff, Utah, for some adventuring. We hit a few of my favorite spots and explored a site up on top of the mesa in Grand Gulch that I've only seen through satellite pics. It is quite a treat to share this special place with my dad.

I've been working through Morgan Sjogren's Path of Light, getting distracted by each chapter, following the threaded stories of the canyons and people she discusses. Clyde Whiskers is one of them. I've seen his marks throughout the SW for years. therunningbum.com/2020/04/04/w...

I'm out of commission for a while. A meniscus tear in one of my knees has made itself known. I'm stuck looking at maps, route descriptions, and sat photos until I can get in for a fix. Road Canyon in Cedar Mesa was one of my last outings into a backcountry setting.

Never take for granted our wild places. The importance of living history is a gift. They tell a story of our past, present, and future.

I've been hiking these mountain trails for over 20 years, and still, my heart flutters as I make discoveries. Life's stress lifts from my shoulders and is replaced by the comfort of solitude and knowledge of self. Work to live, not the other way around.

Is this a good time to remind everybody that we live in a country that has literally no code of ethics requirement for the highest court in the land? Can't call it corruption if there ain't no rule against corruption. I mean, that's great work if you can get it.

I’ve been staying busy while on pto. A good amount of adventurizing. Sadly, I go back to being a desk jockey tomorrow. /cc @chrismcmahon.bsky.social here’s another darling of a canyon to spark your imagination.
