I’m torn between liking any time seismologists/seismology makes news, and being annoyed when this is just saying seismometers are really amazing instruments that can measure lots of things which have nothing to do with earthquakes. 🧪⚒️
Earthquake readings were strongest when Taylor Swift performed “ … Ready for It?” The crowd during the four-minute performance transmitted about 80 kilowatts of power, which is equivalent to the power that roughly 6,000 car batteries produce, the British Geological Survey said.
Swifties set off earthquake sensors again. These songs made the biggest stir.wapo.st Fans caused the most seismic activity as Taylor Swift sang “... Ready For It?” at the Eras Tour, which produced as much power as 6,000 car batteries make, experts said.

I mean, detecting the thousands of people jumping around at a concert doesn’t really seem more impressive to me than the fact that any half-decent seismometer can detect the ocean in the middle of Siberia or North Dakota. But I suppose connecting your science to Taylor Swift is irresistible

I mean when the data ends up identifying a previously unknown or unidentified phenomenon, even if not an earthquake, that's pretty neat!

Obviously not talking about this instance. Lol

Sure. Seismometers can detect landslides, hurricanes, glacial movements, and lots of other things complementary to other techniques, but everyone knew there was a Taylor Swift concert!

Absolutely. Hmm. What's the weirdest thing you can think of that they have identified?
